Lorraine Avazis
A.P. Willits Elementary School
Lorraine Avazis is an inspirational educator, teacher, leader and outstanding person. She has been a dedicated, compassionate and caring member of the AP Willits family for 25 years. Mrs. Avazis has an amazing ability to understand her students, help them grow and always make them feel like they are the most important person who has ever walked through her classroom door. In addition to being one of the school’s most respected and generous classroom teachers, Mrs. Avazis is an invaluable member of the school community. As co-advisor of the Student Council, her endless contributions to charitable events have greatly impacted the lives of those in need. Mrs. Avazis is a teacher leader who has helped faculty develop their hearts, minds and bodies. She is a genuinely good person who, along with her husband Alfie, has raised two daughters, Katie and Marygrace and her niece, Olivia. Mrs. Avazis speaks from the heart and models the pro-social behaviors that make Willits such a special place. She has played a key role in helping
explore the cognitive science behind effective teaching and learning
(Bjork 2020). This work has helped us all become better educators.
Mrs. Avazis is an unstoppable force when it comes to fitness. She is
the co-advisor to the fitness club and consistently encourages
colleagues to join her on bike challenges and mud runs. In June 2008,
Mrs. Avazis received the PTA Jenkins Lifetime Membership Award, a
well-deserved recognition. Congratulations Lorraine Avazis for 25 years
of Thinking, Learning and Caring at A.P. Willits.

Stacey Balducci
. Stacey has been involved in Health Education at Syosset High School for
her entire 25 year career, teaching several courses including 11th grade
Regular Health, Community Health, Peer Helpers, Wellness and Seniors 101. Stacey’s content knowledge, interactive lessons and connection to her students always made her one of the most popular educators in the school. Additionally, Stacey’s work ethic, dedication and commitment went well beyond the classroom. Stacey would always look to get involved in numerous clubs and after school activities relating to her classes during the school day as well as other school-wide functions. Cheerleading coach, Ronald McDonald House field trips, Sports Night, Mary Brennan INN field trips, Interact, the Center for Developmental Disabilities, school-wide walk-a-thons and District-wide fundraisers are just a few of them, though the list is endless. With all the amazing characteristics to describe Stacey Balducci, the one word that would summarize her the best would be passionate. In whatever fashion Stacey involved herself within all the diverse activities at
Syosset High School, Stacey’s passion for all the students always shined the
brightest. Congratulations to Stacey Balducci on your Silver Anniversary.
We are looking forward to many more years filled with your
passion for our students, school and community.
