Year 2 I can give examples of things that were different&nbsp;when my grandparents were children. I can use words and phrases like before, after, past present, then and now. I can ask and answer questions such as: “What was it like for a..?”, “What happened?”&nbsp;“Why did this happen?” using books and the internet.&nbsp; I can research the past using artefacts, pictures, texts and online sources. I can give reasons why people from the past acted in the ways they did. I can recount the life of someone famous from&nbsp;Britain&nbsp;who lived in the past. I can explain what they did earlier and later.&nbsp; I can use information gained from (adult supported) research to identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods. I can take about history in my local area and the impact of significant people on my community.&nbsp;I can identify different types of sources. I can use the class timeline to extract and use key information about events in history. I can recognise changes within living memory of members of our community, and how this reflects national changes.

Year 1 I can explain how I have changed since I was born.&nbsp; I can sequence some events within historical stories they have learned I can apply my prior knowledge to explain what an object from the past might have been used for.&nbsp; Identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods. Understand some ways that we find out about the past (pictures / paintings / diary accounts / photos of recent past) I can recognise that some objects belonged to the past. I can ask and answer questions about old and new objects.&nbsp; Recognise changes within living memory of members of our community. I can explain what an object from the past might have been used for. I can explain how some people have helped us to have better lives.&nbsp; Recalls topic related vocabulary, plus: past, old, new, young, days, months, years. I refer to the class timeline to remember key events that have happened in the past (linked to big questions).

YR I can talk about important people in my life.&nbsp; I can talk about and discuss important past and present events in my life and explain their importance. I can recognise that some objects belonged to the past and explore what it might have been used for.&nbsp; I can talk about the differences between how we live now and in the past.&nbsp; I can ask and answer questions about objects/images/stories from the past.&nbsp; I can talk about how people lived in the past.
