When the world was newly made, deep in the depths of the Rainforest, there was one dull, sombre coloured bird called the Parrot. Parrot, who was picked on for the colour of his feathers, spent most days eating the bugs in the half-rotted trees and looking at his reflection in the lake thinking-why do I have to be like this?
One day, Parrot saw the brave Tiger (king of the jungle) and the wise, old snake playing hide and seek. Feeling left out, Parrot asked, “Hello Tiger your majesty do you mind if I join in your rather excellent game of hide and seek?” asked Parrot politely, getting on the bad side of Tiger was a thing of death.
“What, you?!” bellowed Tiger, “I must not be seen playing with the drabbest animal in my kingdom! Definitely not Parrot, look at my beautiful fur compared to your feathers!”
While Snake and Tiger laughed about their jokes, Parrot flew back to her tree surveying the land. As the sun set across the landscape, pools of tears formed in the corner of her eyes. She shall try again tomorrow.
With the sun rising, Parrot glided over to the community area of the rainforest (even though she didn’t feel part of the community). Water falls plunged into the murky water below with wild flowers of every kind bringing colour and freshness to the dense landscape of green.

At ground level, Snake and Peacock were playing tag. Parrot swooped down, she endeavoured that she would succeed.
Sitting on a protruding branch, she questioned, “Excuse me Snake and Peacock, please may I join the two of you in this marvellous game you are playing?”
“No!” retorted Peacock, “Look at my beautiful feathers and look at yours. Snake am I watching a black and whit movie here?” sarcastically questioned Peacock.
Incensed by Peacock’s words, Parrot flew off with a horrible feeling in the pit of her stomach. After repeating the same words in her head over and over again in her head, when she eventually stopped daydreaming, a tree full of wonderful open fruits and lush green leaves stood right in front of her. With nothing possible, Parrot closed her eyes tightly and braced her muscles. Like a school bully, the tree poked at her feathers and pinched her. Once she emerged from the fruit tree, she felt heavy and wet from the liquids that covered her.
However, once she arrived at the lake, she looked at her reflection. Her feathers were elegant blues, reds and yellows, quite the opposite of what she once was. Surely now the animals will let her play in her games now.

Even though Parrot is proud of her new colours, she doesn’t show them off too often since she doesn’t want to go back to the old Parrot. From that day to this, Parrots have always worn coloured feathers.
