Echidna Information Report Response to Bushfires Instead of moving away from the fires, Echidnas will burrow underground and hibernate until the fire passes. They will also lower their metabolic rate, reduce their body temperature and lower their heartrate. This will work in a low intensity fire but it may not work in a high intensity. All in all, Echidnas aren’t as affected by bushfires as other animals. They are a least concerned species and they still thrive today. Appearance Echidnas have tan spikes with grey tips, and are black and brown in colour. They have long, slender snouts that act like mouth or/and nose. Echidnas have very short but strong limbs with very sharp claws that make them amazing diggers. Their ears are slits on the side of their heads, they are not commonly seen because of their big spikes. Echidnas mouths are small and their teeth are absolutely tiny. They resemble a porcupine Habitat: Echidnas can’t tolerate warm and hot temperatures so they use caves and rock crevices to shelter themselves from very hot weathers. Echidnas are usually found in woodlands and damp forests hiding under, vegetation and earth debris. The Echidnas mainly live in Tasmania, King Island, Flinders Island and Kangaroo Island Reproduction: Echidna’s are usually born as small leathery eggs and a female lays the egg 22 days after mating. The egg weighs about 380 milligrams, and are usually 1.4 centimeters long. Overall the Echidnas are affected by Bushfires, and so the population that was 5 million now has decreased by a significant amount. Diet: Echidna’s mainly balance on insects, small animals, ants and termites. The zaglossus, the long beaked echidna, mainly eat worms and insect larvae. The tongues of the long beaked Echidna have sharp small spines that help them capture their food.

This is an Echidna that has survived a bushfire! You can see that the spikes are burnt off.

Wombat information report! A wombat is a native Australian animal. They are quite shy but their population is 1000 to 3000 wombats left in the wild also their best adaption is there backside because if any threats come they will use the bottom to attack?&nbsp; Subheading: Bush Fire adaption. As you know wombats dig holes but they dig them about 30 meters deep so they can be safe from the fire. But also&nbsp;small animals&nbsp;like sugar gliders bugs and mouse so on crawl into the&nbsp; &nbsp;burrow and stay safe there. Habitat: The common wombat mainly lives in wet parts of the forest if they can find one and, in the ranges, and the western slope but the hairy nose wombats like to live in dry areas like a paddock in a farm or next to a road which is very dangerous. Both of these wombats live in borrows 30 meters deep but they like the soil&nbsp;damp so they can dig in it much more easier Diet: Wombats spend 3 to 8 hours eating a day. And during the night which is native grasses such as the tussock, wallaby grass and kangaroo grass. They will also eat the roots of shrubs and trees. And if they can find little bug and catch fly’s they think that is a treat. And from all this eating they can weigh up to 20 to 35k. Conclusion: In conclusion wombats can&nbsp;get big and can adapt to&nbsp;some things but also if you see a wombat don’t go up to them make sure&nbsp;you give them space.

this is a baby wombat effected by the 2009 black Saturday bushfires. It is in urgent care to hopefully get better. This is quite a young wombat still learning from its mother how to eat and find food. so it might be critical if they cant find the baby's mum

3 little animals have had to go through something they would not see on a daily basis. A huge natural disaster will take strength and bravery from these 3 friends to get rid of it .But the 2 Echidna's and the wombat will go through this together. As a team!
