Connecting Countries Making Friends

Valentine’s Day occurs every February 14. Across many places around the world, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. Valentine’s Day began from the ancient Roman ritual of Lupercalia that welcomed spring and went on to the card-giving customs of Victorian England until presente days Valentines commonly depict&nbsp;Cupid, the Roman god of love, along with hearts, traditionally the seat of emotion. Because it was thought that the&nbsp;avian&nbsp;mating season begins in mid-February,&nbsp;birds&nbsp;also became a symbol of the day. Traditional gifts include&nbsp;candy&nbsp;and&nbsp;flowers, particularly red&nbsp;roses, a symbol of beauty and love. We decided to paint love mandalas instead…

And so this was a year full of traditions!

Easter traditions and symbols have evolved over time, though some have been around for centuries. While to Christians, Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Christ, many Easter traditions are not found in the Bible. The most prominent secular symbol of the Christian holiday, the Easter bunny, was reportedly introduced to America by the German immigrants who brought over their stories of an egg-laying hare. The decoration of eggs is believed to date back to at least the 13th century, while the rite of the Easter parade has even older roots. Other traditions, such as the consumption of Easter candy, are among the modern additions to the celebration of this early springtime holiday.

The French tradition La Chandeleur (Candlemas) is a&nbsp;French tradition La Chandeleur (Candlemas) takes place on the 2nd February. Actually it is considered the last cycle of the Christmas celebration. So in religious tradition, Christians were only meant to clear the Christ’s manger scene after la Chandeleur. Nowadays, la Chandeleur is mostly known as the day of the crêpes. It’s a day when families and friends all make crêpes and enjoy them together.&nbsp;

STARTING POINT In an intercultural perspective, to celebrate Halloween, the English teachers asked the students to research and build “wind charms/dream catchers” alluding to the topic. They then decided to work on the various festivities, throughout the school year (October-June), celebrated in English-speaking countries. THIS PROJECT AIMS - provide more opportunities for students and teachers to cooperate on a common topic; - raise awareness of what it means to be European/belong to Europe; - discover, respect and appreciate new cultures; - develop and reinforce communicative (in a foreign language) and digital skills.

Hello, my name is Duarte and today I´m going to tell you a little bit about my city. Lordelo is a small city near Oporto, in Paredes. It has about 12 thousands inhabitants. It has many restaurants where it is served the traditional food: “cabrito assado”, “cozido à Portuguesa” and “bacalhau assado no forno”. It has beautiful parks with beautiful gardens, where people can enjoy the nature, breath the fresh air, jogging, hang out with family and friends and have picnics. The greatest disadvantage is that the river Ferreira is so polluted, although the efforts of all population against the government, to keep it clean. There also places that worth a visit such as: “Torre dos Alcoforados”, “Moinhos”, “Ponte Romana” and “Baloiço de Meda”. As this one is situated in a high point where you can see the sea and “Serra do Marão” and, of course, admire the beautiful landscapes and enjoy the fresh air.

Hello! Our class is formed by 20 students, 11 are girls and 9 are boys. We are a small class in comparison with the others, but that doesn't stop us from being united and strong. It's almost like we are a big family. We might fight sometimes but in the end we all love each other. And plus, there's nothing we can't solve. And now you already know us! Goodbye!
