8th Grade Play - Disney The Little Mermaid Jr.

This year for the 8th grade the musical was The Little Mermaid Jr! Everyone in the 8th grade was super excited at the beginning of the quarter to start their Unified Arts classes. Costume Design, Set Design, Art Design, Marketing Design, and the cast came together to put together the show. Mrs. Olsen, Mr. Trimmer, Mrs. Fuller, Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Vanderhoek, and Mr. Davini are the amazing Unified Arts teachers who all helped the students in their production of The Little Mermaid Jr. 122 students participated in various roles spending many weeks preparing to put on this production. The cast and crew really came together to create this amazing performance. After a long dress rehearsal day from the beginning of the school day until 5 pm things were starting to come together and everyone at Cawley could see that. The hallway was set up and looked spectacular. The t-shirt designers, Evan Schottler and Amaya Vasquez really made an incredible design. After a long quarter of hard work it was so rewarding to see everything put together on stage. With a lot of flex time, UA time, class time, and students free time all of the elements came together to create this unique setting for the cast members to act in and everything worked out perfectly. It truly was a big part of the 8th graders world. This play was a huge success and everyone loved it. Thank you to everyone who put in the hard work to make this happen. We all hope it became a part of your world.

Large Group Festival

On March 16th, the Cawley band and chorus went to Goffstown High School to compete with other middle schools in the Large Group Festival. They left for the high school in the morning and visited other school’s performances, viewed each other’s performances and performed themselves. The Cawley Chorus performed “Over the Sea to Skye”, “Windy Nights”, and “If You Could Hear My Voice”, with a rating of 3 out of 4. The band played “Portrait of a Clown”, “Me: ReAffirmation”, and “Arabian Dances”. They got a 2 out of 4. The Cawley band and Chorus did a fantastic job, and they will be performing in May, during their concert. Also a well done job by chorus director, Elizabeth Vanderhoek, and band director, Brandon Davini.

Dress-Up Days

On March 4th, Cawley kicked off Middle School Month. The assembly began with Cawley’s former school resource officer, Officer Bergeron, who sent a special video message to start Middle School Month with enthusiasm and courage. Then the students were introduced to Erin Morrow and Jacob Parker, two past students of Mrs. Rogers, who showed Cawley how to be creative and inspired with their invention, finger flyer! The invention was based off the tech deck skateboard which was turned into a hoverboard drone. They demonstrated how with perseverance and problem-solving led to a successful company. They truly inspired Cawley students that anyone can work hard to change the world. A big congrats to the Cawley Cheer Team on their performance for Middle School Month. The 6th, 7th and 8th grade all had been looking forward to the day and were super engaged.

The spirit of Middle School Month was shown through the many fun dress up days! We had Hawaiian day ( Outsiders day for the eighth grade!), Twin day, Western Day, and Grade color day! So many people dressed up. Thanks to Mr. Fleury, who he took pictures during lunch! We had so many people wear Hawaiian clothes, and many twins! The halls were filled with bright colors, lays, and grass skirts! Mr. Hamilton played music in the halls and it made it even more bright and festive! On western day, the halls were filled with people

wearing cowboy and cowgirl hats, along with western styled boots. So much fun was filled throughout the halls, and so many people are ready to do it again next year!!

What's Happening - Middle School Month

Dodgeball Tournament

This year during Middle School Month the whole school got the chance to participate in a school wide dodgeball tournament. This year 23 teams paying $10 to play, raised over $250 for the Chase Arnold Scholarship Fund. The teams made up of 10 participants, students and the choice of 1 teacher, were put into a bracket and each matchup played the best of three games. All teams fought hard and played really good games. As always it was very competitive but there was also very good sportsmanship shown at this annual tournament. The winning team for the 6th grade was The Barbies!! The winning team for the 7th grade was The Mighty Ducks!! Finally the winning team for the 8th grade was The Red Devils!! Congratulations to all of the teams that participated in this tournament; they all did an excellent job.

As an added excitement for the Dodgeball Tournament, Mr. Trimmer and Mr. Clark drew names of registered participants to cut and style their hair prior to the event. This year, 6th graders Kevin Collins and Addison Pittman where selected and did a fantastic job!

What's Happening - Middle School Month

Spirit Rally & Activites

Anticipation of March Middle School Month’s biggest event, the Spirit-Rally, scattered excitement among the three grades. March 22nd, the big day, included spirit, dancing, and competing. Who won the coveted stick? Each grade earned points by winning the competitions, expressing their spirit, and showcasing their abilities to quiet down quickly. Mr. Hamilton (7th grade science teacher) was the MC for the event and started off by pointing out the line of students standing on the gym floor. The array of students consisted of those who had outstanding displays for National History Day, and those who would move on to States for National History Day. Shortly after, several teachers danced to the song “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift. Next, the number of points already received from past dress up days and events were revealed; 26 points for 6th grade, 33 for 7th, and finally, 28 for 8th grade. The competition took place with the following activities: bean bag toss, hula hoop, potato sweep, hula hoop relay, limbo, balloon pop, cotton ball, musical dots, toilet plunger relay, and obstacle course. At the end of the event, the winner was revealed….the 7th Grade!

7th and 8th Grade NHD

NHD (National History Day) is a nation-wide educational event with a historical theme. This year, the theme was turning points in history. 6th graders at Cawley Middle School studied the ancient world and what innovations it brought. For the grade level competition, 6th graders were allowed to create an exhibit, documentary, essay, or performance in which they would have to present to the judges. The judges would then give them a grade based on their presentation and historical accuracy. All the kids did a great job. A select number of students moved on to the school competition level. Those students are: Emma Greenberg, Lyllian Eddy, Paige Reed, Crew Fitzgerald, Tyler Smith, Chris Libby, Rhys St. Onge, Dom Buco, Maddie Greene, Alexis Ah You, Adalyn Tremblay, Piper Stewart, Eli Maron-Loos, Daria Bon, Nick Uribe, Jacob Timpe and Milla Creamer.

On March 11th, the seventh and eighth grade studnets presented their long awaited, NHD projects. After 2 months of typing, clicking, gluing, writing, practicing, and preparing, the students were ready to present. The seventh grade topics revolved around the Civil War, or more vaguely, turning points in the 1800s. The eighth grade however, was focused on World War II and the 1900s. Students worked hard to become experts in their topics. According to Mrs. Piana, “ It was amazing seeing all their work come together. When we first began in JANUARY, students were overwhelmed and nervous. Seeing it all come together SO BEAUTIFULLY showed us and our students that hard work pays off, and that if you can believe it, you can achieve it. This was my first time doing NHD, so at first I was overwhelmed too, but I knew my students had done this before, and so we worked together and it was the greatest experience!” Congratulations to the students that went to the state competition on April 6th, Abby Chambers, Paige Reed, Reid Hamilton, Lucy Callahan, Jaelynn Breton, Abby Brown, Emily Little, Violet Lloyd, Jamie Godbout, Matthew VanWagner, Maxine Ryan-Jacobson, and Maggie McAuliffe. Overall, NHD this year was a huge success, and it hopefully will be for years to come. After the State Competition, Maxine Ryan-Jacobson, Maggie McAuliffe, Jamie Gobout, Reid Hamilton, Violet Lloyd, Emily Little, and Lucy Callanan will be competing in the National competition in June. Congratulations and Good Luck!

What's Happening - 6

Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Competition

Madison Huberty and Violet Lloyd were chosen at Cawley Middle School as the winners of the Molly Stark Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution essay competition. Cawley congratulated them for their success. They were recognized at the General John Stark Chapter House in Manchester. They received a Bronze American History Medal, certificate and award. Everyone at Cawley was very proud of them and what they accomplished. This competition is huge. It has sections, which are called Chapters, and the students from a couple towns compete. Then there are statewide competitions and the winners of those go to regional competition. The regional is in New York and New England for Violet and Madison. After this, it proceeds to the entire nation. The students are graded on historical accuracy, grammar, spelling, cited sources/bibliography, and more. Violet and Madison were extremely happy, as Madison won the Chapter Division, and so did Violet, as she went on to win in the State Division too! The Northeast regional competition winners have not yet been decided. The girls were “jumping up and down for joy” ,as Violet Lloyd says. The girls worked very hard. It was not assigned to them, but they chose to do this. Eventually, they wrote an essay and submitted it. Some of their biggest takeaways, and favorite parts were learning about American history, getting new information, and finding out more about this event. They encourage others to do this competition too! You can do it all the way through high school. You can start in 5th grade. Violet and Madison truly did an amazing job with this, and they should be proud. Congratulations to them again! Cawley is very proud of them.
