MAPLE CLASS - NOVEMBER
October, November and December Birthday celebrations
GOLDEN TICKET WINNERS
This month Maple class have been busy celebrating Bonfire Night by creating acrostic poems and colourful firework pictures, as well as learning about the origin of the event.

Mrs Rosser had an exciting time with the children investigating an alien crash site on the playground, where they discovered evidence of alien life amongst the grass! They had so many theories of what had happened to cause it and created wonderful artworks to display them.

We have all very much enjoyed welcoming Miss Rodrigeuz into the class. We have had a fun first week/ fortnight revisiting our class rules and learning our new class song which helps us with our learning. Here are the words to practise at home!

CONGRATULATIONS
Isaac
Joby
Bucky
Frankie
We have been focusing on rhyming in Year 2 - reciting nursery rhymes and identifying the rhyming words with, helping the class to prepare for their own poems.
SYCAMORE CLASS - NOVEMBER
OCTOBER, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Sycamore class have had another busy month of learning. We spent time reflecting on Remembrance Day when we learnt a poem and made some amazing poppies. We continued learning about couplets and poems in our Language lessons and have begun to analyse them looking at rhythm and repetition. We then focused on performance poetry and had fun adding our own actions to complement the poems. Performing them for the class was fun but a little scary for some. We used the poems Sing a song of Sixpence and Pat a cake. Ask us to show you what we did.

In Mathematics we have continued to work on our Number skills and place value. We can add and take away big numbers now using different methods. We are developing our skills when modelling (showing with cubes, counters and blocks) our answers so we can demonstrate we really understand the processes we are learning. The other day one student asked when we would have to stop playing and start doing our Maths!!! They had been learning for 45 minutes and were totally absorbed in the activities. We have also learnt a new card game to help us practice our number bonds. See learning is fun!!!!!

Samantha and Robbie are showing their advent crowns we made in RE. We've been looking at stories of light and dark across different religions. In our topic work we've been looking houses old and new and investigating aerial photographs of places we know.

HAZEL CLASS - NOVEMBER
Diwali
Last week we celebrated Divali as a class and watched an amazing shadow puppet show of the story of Light triumphing over darkness. The children talked about times in their lives when good things had come out of difficult events. Emma made a Divali lantern at home and helped to illuminate our circle time session.
Alien Visit
We have been exploring extra-terrestrial beings this term and had an unexpected visit from Beebop the alien. He was looking for Beegu who had crash landed in Bude and has become lost. We used a special sensor to detect where Beegu had walked off and where she had left the school grounds. The children enjoyed questioning the alien and many noted a strangely familiar beard under breathing apparatus. Apparently they sell these on Beebop's planet at a very reasonable rate!
Science and Writing
The children in Hazel Class have been developing our descriptive writing this term and this was brought to life during our recent science session studying an alien brain. The children were able to use their senses to describe the sample brain and with the help of our in-class dissection team, we have all agreed that they smell rather like raspberries. We have been following the recent Space X launch with interest and have really enjoyed learning about life on the International Space Station. Our next giant leap will be into the solar system and beyond to explore other worlds and distant stars.

ROWAN CLASS - NOVEMBER
This month Rowan class have had some very special visitors! We discovered a crash site that we believe was Beegu and his broken UFO. We suspected that Beegu had travelled into Bude as we saw a trail of moondust leading out of the school and towards the houses so keep your eyes peeled! We have produced some character descriptions to help the people of Bude to get Beegu back to his home planet quickly! Not only did we discover a mysterious UFO crash, we had a visitor from a far away planet! His name was Beepop and he was on a mission to locate Beegu and get him back to his home planet. The children had great fun telling Beepop everything we had found out from the crash site. Beegu has also sent us some pictures whilst he has been out and about in Bude! (Don't worry he kept a 2m distance from all humans) we have used this to write an email to Beepop telling him where he might find Beegu.
As mathematicians this month, we have been working on our addition and subtraction skills. We have been working hard at forming number sentences in our books, creating fact families and working systematically to find number bonds within 10. Rowan class are loving doing a daily fluency session which we call "Flashback Fluency" (Cue crazy arm movements!) I have been so proud of how well the children are working in their learning, they are always keen to try their best and never let anything stop them!
As scientist we have been learning about materials. We have been designing a moon buggy, we will be investigating which materials we could use to make it strong and safe on the moon. We will then be making them using boxes, axels and wheels.
We have also been enjoying our Tuesday afternoons in the woods. Thank you Matt!

Well done my little Rowans for another amazing month! You are all amazing and you should be so proud of your achievements.
OAK CLASS - NOVEMBER
In Oak Class we have just finished our mini topic of "What's in the sky?" The children wanted to find out about space, why we have day and night, as well as things that fly in the sky. We listened to "Whatever Next!" by Jill Murphy and imagined we were building rockets as we wore space suits and alien costumes! We listened to "The owl who was afraid of the dark!" by Martin Waddell, and "The Balloon" by Jez Alborough and learned to retell these stories in our own words with our own pictorial story map. These texts have also been the basis for our finger fit daily writing. We are so proud of how well the class are writing their sounds and Fred talking. We hope you have enjoyed seeing these as they come home. We had an exciting time setting off rockets on the field as well! We have just started our new topic of "What do we celebrate?" Last week we learned the story of "Kipper's birthday." We have been sharing our special celebration photos from home and talking about them in class. We have been learning how people celebrate birthdays and festivals all over the world in different ways. We looked at Diwali last week and had a go at making rangoli patterns. We also remembered Poppy Day in a child friendly way with our own silence and some art work. In maths we have been continuing with our maths mastery journey to learn about the numbers to 5 and about shapes and positional language in lots of interesting ways. We have been blown away by the children's progress in phonics. Thank you for all you have been doing to support this at home and for remembering the phonics folders from home each day. Please continue to use Tapestry regularly to look at what your child has been learning at school and to add positive comments. We love to see what you have been doing/learning at home also. We look forward to the next month which builds up to Christmas and have some lovely things planned....please watch this space.......Kind regards, Mrs Garrad and Jo
