Present Continuous
"Die Verlaufsform"

Wenn du beschreiben möchtest, was jemand gerade tut oder was gerade in diesem Augenblick passiert, musst du im Englischen die sogenannte continuous Form des Verbs verwenden. Diese setzt sich zusammen aus am/are/is und der -ing Form des Verbs.

I am writing a letter now. (Jetzt gerade)

I am working.
You are writing.
He is singing.
She is running.
It is eating a bone.
We are jumping.
You are playing.
They are swimming.
Signalwörter zeigen die Verwendung der present continuous Form an:

now (jetzt)
at the moment (im Moment)
at present (derzeit)
still noch (immer)
just (gerade)
Look! (Schau!)
Listen! (Horch!)
Shh! (Pst!)
Be quiet! (Sei ruhig!)

Nun begeben wir uns in die Vergangenheit.

Du verwendest die Past continuous Form:

1) Wenn zu einem bestimmten, schon vergangenen Zeitpunkt eine Handlung gerade im Ablaufen war.

What were you doing yesterday at three o'clock?
On Friday between four and five I was having tea with my parents.

2) Für lang andauernde Handlungen in der Vergangenheit (past tense).

He was waiting for the train.
The baby was crying all afternoon.

Das Past continuous wird mit einer Form von to be (was, were) + Infinitiv + -ing gebildet.
