This week Year One have been making their own miniature umbrellas using waterproof materials. The children used what they have learnt in Science to choose the best material. They enjoyed testing their umbrellas afterwards. In Maths they have been focusing on addition, thinking about how they can solve problems using "first", "then" and "now" stories. In RE the children have been looking at a range of gifts and thinking about who they would be for. The children enjoyed the fire lighting experience on Monday where they toasted marshmallows and drank hot chocolate. There have been some fantastic bonfire poetry writing too!
This week Reception have been learning all about bonfire night. They have been creating bonfire pictures using chalks, paints and glitter. In literacy they have been developing their handwriting patterns to support with their writing skills. The children have been learning all about number 2 in Maths, looking at representations and counting accurately.
This week in Year Two the children have begun adding two 2-digit numbers. They have begun 'exchanging' ten ones for one ten when the ones total crosses a ten. They used practical resources and explored this new strategy together. Well done Year Two!
Miss K Bullock
Head of School
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Alex Allen as the schools Hub Councillor. Alex is new to this role and I am sure will play an active role in providing support and challenge for the school.
I am Alex Allan, I have a son, Alfie, at Biscovey and my Partner Miss Parr works there too. I am really proud to be the Hub Councillor representing the Biscovey Nursery and Infants' Academy, working with the school leadership team to help and support in any way I can. I live locally and will attend all possible meetings to not only abide by the Hub Councillor code of conduct but also express any celebrates or concerns as a parent.
I have already had the pleasure of attending a monitoring visit with other external members of the Aspire leadership and Mike Brady, the schools strategic partner, and can honestly say that as a parent and a Hub Councillor I was immensely proud of how much care and attention is put into the children's needs (both academically and personally). The visiting members of Aspire leadership were also incredibly complimentary of the standards of teaching but also the children's engagement and behaviour.
I will represent as best I can with the up most integrity.
Thank you to those of you that have already completed the parent questionnaire. We really value your comments about our school so please do take 5 minutes to complete the questionnaire.
