Eunice Kennedy Shriver inspiration on making the special Olympics was her sister Rosemary. Rosemary had an intellectual disabilities so her father sent her to an institution with 200,000 other people. They were treated poorly and were contained in 12 inches of concrete. IN 1962 Eunice started to take action so she created camp Shriver. This camp was for people with intellectual disabilities. The goal she had for camp Shriver was that she wanted people with intellectual disabilities to get physical activities.More and more camp Shriver became to grow and in July of 1968.The first ever special Olympics was held in Chicago ,Illinois, USA. Now the special Olympics have more than 6 million people with intellectual disabilities over 200 countries.

Camp Shriver was created in 1962.Eunice would then invite intellectual disabilities. Later she would help them get more interested in sports and get more exercise.Camp shriver would then expand in 1968

As a kid

Eunice was born in Brookline Massachusetts , July 10,1921 but sadly past away in 2009 at the age of 88. Eunice also had 8 siblings and one of them was JFK can you believe that the 35 president is Eunice Kennedy sister amazing right.Eunice Kennedy Shriver also went to Stanford university. Eunice Kennedy shriver was also awarded the presidential medal of freedom in 1984 by president Ronald Reagan.
