I respectfully acknowledge that I am living on the unceded lands and waters of the Algonquin people, which have been living on this land long before it was forcefully taken by the Europeans. 

Je reconnais respectueusement que je vis sur les terres et les eaux non cédées du peuple algonquin, qui vivaient sur ces terres bien avant qu'elles ne soient prises de force par les Européens.

My parents settled on this land in 2005, and I had no idea that it was taken from the Anishinabe (Awneeshee-naw-bay) people a long time ago, but now I know about the history of this land and how the original guardians were stripped of their rights. 

Mes parents se sont installés sur cette terre en 2005, et je n'avais aucune idée qu'elle avait été prise au peuple Anishinabe (Awneeshee-naw-bay) il y a longtemps, mais maintenant je connais l'histoire de cette terre et comment les gardiens d'origine étaient déchu de ses droits.

Every day, I play, learn, talk, socialize, work, and enjoy my life on this land that has been owned by the First Nations people my whole life, and I would like to pay my respects to the true owners. When I heard about the abuse towards First Nations people like residential schools, I was shocked as I hadn’t heard about anything worse in my life. 

Chaque jour, je joue, j'apprends, je parle, je socialise, je travaille et je profite de la vie sur cette terre qui a appartenu aux Premières Nations toute ma vie, et j'aimerais rendre hommage aux véritables propriétaires. Quand j'ai entendu parler des abus envers les membres des Premières Nations comme les pensionnats, j'ai été choqué car je n'avais rien entendu de pire dans ma vie.

Now that I know about the true history of this land, I can use it to better understand the struggles that all of the Algonquin people went through and how they suffered through generations of abuse with their languages and cultures being torn away.

Maintenant que je connais la véritable histoire de cette terre, je peux l'utiliser pour mieux comprendre les luttes que tous les Algonquins ont traversées et comment ils ont souffert pendant des générations d'abus avec leurs langues et leurs cultures arrachées.
