A Ghost Story

About the time of the Civil War, two Northerners were caught in battle. They were thrown into a Confederate prison.

They ended up in the swamps of Arkansas.

(And prisons, they grow them big in Arkansas.)

They stayed there long enough to know they did not like it. So they decided to sneak out and head back north.

They ended up in the swamps of Arkansas.

Every step was torture.

(And swamps, they grow them big in Arkansas.)

They peeked out from around those old, Arkansas trees.

And this was not a little swamp shack.
It was a mansion of a house!

They came across a house in the swamp.

They did not like the feeling of that house.

They snuck up to the fence and waited for dogs to chase them away. But no dogs came.

The house looked scary in the dark.

They looked at the house.

They snuck up to the window.

They walked up to the door.

The moon above was full



and shone with a ghostly light upon the house.

They went inside and found a bed.

(And beds, they grow them big in Arkansas.)

Soon, they were asleep.
No, that's not completely true.

That little soldier, he slept.

The big soldier, he couldn't sleep.

Every sound scared him. He couldn't see a thing in the darkness.
