Hello, I am the author, Alyssa Payne. I am eleven years old. I am in fifth grade. One fun fact about me is that I love to draw. My favorite thing to draw are flowers or nature. This is why I am writing this book. My favorite flowers to draw are daisies and marigolds. I think those flowers are fun to draw and color. My other favorite flowers are roses, sunflowers, and hibiscus flowers. These flowers are the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen.

Prickly Roses
The Land Of Roses
Roses are erect, climbing, or trailing shrubs. The stem is covered with prickly thorns to protect from predators like minute pirate bugs, lacewings, and lady beetles.
The land of roses takes place in Bulgaria. They call it the land of roses because the country has been related to the plant for centuries.
Where Do Roses Grow?
Most species of roses grow in Asia, and a fewer in North America, Europe, and North Africa. In North America roses grow in maritime parts of northern California and southern Oregon. This is good for growing more rose species in North America. In North Africa Kenya holds more than half of all the roses in the world.
Daisies

Daisies are tiny flowers that can grow in your backyard. A Daisy is also a type of weed that grows on home lawns. Daisies come in a variety of colors; for example white, pink, yellow, orange, and red.
The Common Daisy
The common daisies grow in every continent except for Antarctica. They can grow in just about every climate and area. It can be in the high mountain area, or even in a flat grassy field. Daisies can sprout in wet or dry areas, and sunny or shady areas. The name daisies tells just how unique it is. The meaning comes from the "eye" opening come morning to closing in the evenings.

Sunflowers are tall plants that grow in the summer. Sunflowers need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight to maximize its full potential. Sunflowers are the tallest flowers according to world records. They can grow up to 30 feet tall. Sunflowers symbolize happiness and unconditional love with their bright yellow mood. They can immediately lift the mood for anyone that receives them.
Life Cycle
The life cycle of a sunflower begins with a seed. Then in a week the roots begin to grow. In the next month baby leaves quickly grow from the stem and also the stem grows taller. Another 30 days it will grow a bud. Then another 30 days the bud has grown big enough for it to start to bloom. Within the blooming stage pollination takes place. Then another 30 days the seeds start to develop and ripen. Then the last stage is harvesting. In conclusion the life cycle is approximately 4 months.
Marigolds
FUN FACT: On the day of the dead  people call marigolds "flowers of the dead" !

Marigolds are a type of flower that blooms in the summer. The best place to grow marigolds are areas with a lot of sunlight, but will tolerate some shade. The reason marigolds are special is because they attract ladybugs, parasitic wasp, hoverflies, and other insects that protect your plants from aphids and other harmful pests. Marigolds symbolize power, strength, and light that lives inside of a person.
Dia De Los Muertos
(the day of the dead)
Dia de los muertos is a Latin-American festive holiday that celebrates old ancestors who have gone to the spirit world. This holiday is very special to people to remind them of their loved ones. The flowers people use on dia de los muertos are marigolds. On dia de los muertos people make paths with the marigolds to lead their ancestors to their homes.
Hibiscus
FUN FACT: Did you know that marigolds are poisonous! Thats crazy!

Hibiscus flowers are a species of herbs and shrubs. These flowers are used to make tea, jam, or to put in salads. Hibiscus flowers grow in Asia and Pacific islands. Hibiscus flowers need well- moist soil in a warm sunny spot to grow. This is great because Asia has high temperatures and lots of sun.
What Do They Symbolize?
Hibiscus flowers symbolize romantic love and passion. This is because of the red and hot pink petals. This flower is a great gift for your partner or someone you like because it brings good luck to bring romance in the relationship and helps someone find a soulmate.
