I learned how to tell the gender of the crabs and whether ones male or female. So basically to put it in a simple way, males have narrower triangular abdomens whilst females have broader abdomens.

Hi I’m Alexander Szabo. If your here I assume you’ve read my little book, I thank you for that as I worked really hard on it. I’m a PLP student in the 8th grade at Seycove Secondary. This is a book reflecting on my experience at Oregon as my class and I went on a 1 week trip there and visited the coast.

Your not allowed to take rocks home because they are very special rocks and are home to the environment of Yaquina Head. It’s also just overall not a good idea to take away some of the animals’ habitat.

It was founded here because it was a really good place to start a company. Here in Oregon they live near lots and lots of cows. This is vital for the cheese since cheese requires a lot of dairy which is what the cows can produce. Overall it was just a very ideal place to start a cheese factory here in Oregon.

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

There were definitely a lot of massive impacts on the Indigenous people. One of the major impacts was trade, when the colonists arrived there was a lot of trading between the two which began. This included furs, guns, clothing, and much more. During the colonization there was a big request for furs especially beaver furs. This led to a mass hunt for beavers due to their mass request and ended up with them being endangered and completely hunted down. This effected the Indigenous people because they really needed beavers and used them for their fur and meat. But without that, achieving such goals without furs became a way bigger obstacle. The picture on the right shows the different types of furs, it basically shows all of the major animals that were hunted down in need of their fur.

I think its very important that we have citizen scientists in the world because it can really help the scientific field and can help with new scientific discoveries. Even if its not much like picking out ghost shrimp, no matter what, it can still really help and benefit scientists. It’s just overall very nice and helpful to get more samples and prototypes of certain things. I think more people should help scientists and become citizen scientists because I really do think it can help the world in many ways.

It looks very interesting and unique. I dont think I’ve really seen anything like this before. This would honesty be a great wallpaper for my iPad!

I’m very excited to hopefully see an Orca in Oregon when I’m there in the next week or so. I’ve always had a love for orcas and thought they were really cool, though I’ve never actually seen a wild one. I find their simple yet cool colours that they have are really fascinating and intriguing. Not only do they look cool but they are also very strong and powerful, they are in fact stronger than great white sharks, this is also another reason why I admire them so much.

Columbia River Maritime Museum Crossing the Bar Section

I definatley would not cross the bar. Crossing the bar does seem pretty cool and epic but it does seem extremely dangerous and risky. There is always constant risk and danger crossing the bar even by experienced experts. Even some of the largest cargo ships get tossed around like little bath toys. At the end of the day, even if its really epic, I just dont think its really worth risking your life over this crazy river bar.

Cannon Beach is most well known for Haystack Rock. It is sometimes called the largest monolithic intertidal rock in the world.

Wolf Haven as its named is a very interesting place full of all kinds of wolves and half wolves. I personally liked all of the wolves but I think I have to say that my favourite wolf was probably the half wolf half dog one. It was a really cool hybrid between the 2 and had some dog like features such as the pink nose and had some wolf like features such as the narrower face and the fluffy fur. Wolf Haven is such an important place because it strives to help wolves live and grow in a better environment, and also tries to help populate some of the endangered species of wolves such as the Mexican wolf. Not only does this place help the lives of many wolves but it also goes even further to help preserve some of the many last endangered pieces of wildlife in the fields and plains near by. I think what inspires them to work so hard is to help the wolf species especially the endangered ones. They are such an inspiring group of people towards their dedication towards helping animals.

Activities like these are important to smaller towns because companies like High Life can make some of the unknown smaller towns more well known and more popular. It also gives these smaller towns which probably don’t have a lot of activities like zip lining more options of fun.

There are many tsunami’s in Oregon especially near the university, there’s even an evacuation center there. Having a tsunami machine can teach people about tsunamis and help them understand them more.

Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

We solved our challenge and built our ROV by working together and assigning people jobs and tasks such as building certain parts of the ROV. It was very difficult at first but gradually got easier and easier. I think the hard part was building a foundation and sort of a base for the ROV, but after we started pieceing the parts together it got a lot easier. Another very difficult part was making sure that the ROV could stay afloat and wouldn’t sink, therefore placing the styrophone floats on the ROV in a way that it would float was another challenge. Something that was easy was the building process and having to put the motors and wires in certain points. It got quite easier after building the beginning of the ROV so everything else was just common sense. 

We found that giving each other different roles such as the writer, the reader, and the runner was really helpful. I was usually either the reader or the writer, those were also my favourite roles. We all worked together by listening to each other and building on each others ideas. We also re read the questions a lot and would go back to our previous clue if we were still lost. As well as working with other groups/teams to help find the answer, that was a good way to really put our minds together and work as a large team to find the answer. I really do think that the roles worked. Instead of just 1 person doing everything, everyone had a specific job to maintain and do. Something that didn’t really work was having 1 person be the leader, it often led to arguments and became sort of unfair which was why we started doing the roles thing.

Travelling South with a stop at Cabela&apos;s!

I took this video of the enormously large fish at Cabela’s. I took this video because I thought seeing the aquarium and going through it was really cool and super interesting to see all of the different types of fish swim around. During this 11 second video you can see me walking around with my iPad capturing all of the fish in action. Even though Cabela’s is a really big place with a lot of cool stuff I think I honestly enjoyed looking at the fish the most, it was probably even my highlight of the whole stop.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Speedy Science

We looked at how fast the crabs were by timing their speed to see how fast they could walk around the hoola hoop. Our prediction was that the bigger crabs were going to be faster than the smaller crabs. We were wrong as the second smallest crab ended up being the fastest.

I learned a whole lot of things at Fort Stevens but one of the things that stood out to me was the fact that Fort Stevens was attacked but a Japanese submarine who fired 8 missiles at the fort. Another interesting fact was that the fort was actually abandoned at one point and was eventually burned down. A lot of different films and movies were also created at Fort Stevens, I unfortunately can’t actually remember their names but they were mainly horror movies. I also learned a lot about some of the different weapons and guns such as this very cool but sort of unconventional pistol knife which is a knife with a little gun on the side, vey unconventional but still pretty cool. I think  I learned a lot of really cool things at Fort Stevens but these were mainly the things that stood out to me.
