WHAT IS THE DIASPORA TRAIL?

What is the African Diaspora Trail you may ask? What does the word Diasopra mean?  The meaning Diaspora is scattered. Over the slave trade it was estimated that 10 million slaves were sent north.

Tucker House

There was a man name Joseph Rainey who lived in the kitchen of the Tucker house Museum.
Joseph Rainey was also a slave who earned his freedom and was the first black man to ever talk in the House of Representatives.
The Tucker House is made of Limestone and Cedar wood.

Commissioner's House

A special part of the Diaspora Trail is the Commissioner's House. The Commissioner's House is a large museum in Dockyard. The House holds some of Bermuda's slave history and other information as well as artifacts.

This Museum shows mostly exibits about slavery.

The Museum was once owned by the Dockyard Commissioner who owned it for almost ten years. To find the Museum you can take the bus to Dockyard, or take the ferry. To get into the museum you do have to pay, the amount depending on how many people you intend to enter the museum with.

St. Georges Historical Society Museum

The Bermuda Society Museum is located on the corner of Featherbed Alley and Duke of Kent Street. This museum dates around 1731. In 1922 the St. Georges Society Muesum was founded.

Also know as Michell House the museum was owned by Isabella and William Archer. Isabella and William were one of the most succsessful black slave owners in Bermuda.

At times this house was used as a school, hotel and travern in the 1840's. William and Isabella Archer the old owners of this house. This house was so important because a man was imprisoned in 1800 for preaching to slaves.
