First of all, we would like to show our gratitude to all the participants in this eTwinning project "A Cultural Journey", teachers and students, for their work and effort, because it was the essential basis for the creation of this international ebook about traditional folk dances and costumes.
This ebook has been created by mixed Team 2. Students and teachers from 13 schools in 8 countries have provided their knowledge and ideas about their traditions and cultures, and shown their creativity and management of web tools, after exploring the most representative symbols of their own cultural heritage.
We can feel satisfied, as at least one of the objectives of this multicultural project has been achieved by means of this ebook: learning from each other and raising students’ curiosity and interest in others, realizing both similarities and differences.
We hope this ebook will make you see countries and their traditions from a more open-minded viewpoint.

Flamenco
Undoubtedly one of the most famous cultural exports from Spain is flamenco. It is in fact so much more than just a dance: it’s an art form recognized as part of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. It emerged among the gypsy communities of Andalusia and is performed by a mixture of singing, guitar playing, dancing, finger snapping and hand clapping.

FLAMENCO
Flamenco is a Spanish musical genre that developed in Andalusia, especially in areas of Huelva, Cádiz, Seville, as well as in some areas of the Region of Murcia and Extremadura. Its main aspects are cante, toque and the dance, also counting on its own traditions and norms. As we know it today, it dates from the 18th century, and there is controversy about its origin, since although there are different opinions and aspects, none of them have been proven historically. The fusion of the different cultures that coincided in Andalusia at the time is more than perceptible.
Its popularity in Latin America has been such that in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela and Puerto Rico various groups and academies have emerged.
Its wide dissemination and study in Chile has even led to the appearance of well-known national figures, such as the guitarists Carlos Lederman and Carlos Pacheco Torres.
In Japan it is so popular that it is said that in that there are more flamenco academies in that country than in Spain.
