We met at 4:15 am in front of our school and then began our trip to Italy. The whole trip took us about 14 hours but it was supposed to take less, there was a traffic jam, but we had a chance to see the beautiful landscape around the Alps, the meadows, the villages. The only things we were doing was sleeping, eating, taking pictures and gossiping. Every time we stopped at gas a station we got off the bus to breathe some fresh air. We definitely noticed we had been in Italy because of the heat. After we had arrived in Monza, our host families picked us up and we went to our new homes.
We pass by the renown sceneries , which are so often associated with Italy : ancient, castles, imposing mountain ranges, rivers with clear turquoise waters, breathtaking cascading hills with vineyards, sun-lit villas innocuosly tucked away behind the trees , picturesque valleys, and so it all comes down to a beautiful Italian mozaik.

The first day of our week in Italy started off with a fun Italian game that took us a while to understand, we enjoyed it nonetheless. Afterwards the collaborative practice of both choirs awaited us. We worked hard on perfecting both Italian and Czech songs, yet never stopped to enjoy ourselves - Italian students kept singing even during the breaks (we joined them as well whenever we could) and we all tried to retain the smiles on our faces even through hunger, which we had satisfied later during the shared lunch on the school terrace. We soaked up the atmosphere and breathed in the Italian air while savouring some of the local delicacies such as focaccia. It was also the perfect time to get to know our Italian friends and spend a nice time together. I’m certain we’ve all already met and spoken to many new wonderful people and it’s only the first day!
In the afternoon we were able to experience unusually hot weather for October while on walk through the city of Monza. We admired the local architecture, stopped to relax in the complex of Villa Reale and once we got back, the rest of the day’s programme was up to us and our Italian hosts. Most of us decided to have a taste of true Italian gelato before setting off to our temporary homes. I’m sure we’d all been welcomed back with smiles on our host families’ faces and delicious dinners on our plates :)

Our second day in Monza started quite well. We had a meeting at 9am, so we had more time in the morning, which we used to meet a few people in a café. After a delicious breakfast and a group discussion, we moved to the meeting point where a bus picked us up and took us to Lake Como. We walked around the lake, looked into the cathedral which contained an exhibition of the origins of the city of Como and the cathedral itself. We then saw the museum of Alessandro Volta and his early experiments and ate a pre-prepared lunch outside the museum with our Italian friends. After lunch and a group photo, we headed up to the province of Brunate, where we were taken by mass cable car. We walked around the area, saw and photographed many beautiful places and views and then headed to the lighthouse. It was a long and challenging journey, yet many of us and the Italians made it. At the lighthouse we took a group photo with the European Union flag and for a small fee we looked up at the lighthouse (we really couldn't go any higher than that ). On the way back, which was about three times faster than the trip up, we boarded a bus to take us back to Monza. Everyone spent time with their families in their own way, mostly, however, it was about hygiene and rest after a whole day of walking.
