We used the maps in the atlas to find and locate where the capital cities of each UK country are. After that, we used question cards to gain a better understanding of where each capital city is located in relation to other countries and cities in the UK.

Here are examples of the questions we had to find the answer to.

To start off the lesson we attempted to draw the UK and identify and locate the UK countries without and pre teaching or support from resources.

Some of us were successful on the first go. After being taught about the UK and it’s countries we had another attempt at the previous task to see if we could get any more accurate.

We used an atlas to search for the capital cities within the 4 UK countries. We were then as accurate as when we plotted these on an empty map of the UK. We noticed that even  ring inaccurate by a few centimetres on our map could mean we plotted our city in a completely different place.
