The life of Charlotte Bronte

Charlotte Bronte was born in Thornton, Yorhshire in the North of England in 1816. She was the third dauther of Patrick Bronte and of Maria Branwell. The couple hâd five dauthers and one son. When Charlotte’s mother died in 1821, the children’s aunt, Elizabeth Branwell, went to live with the family. In 1824 she and her sisters went to a boarding School at Cowan Bridge. Her sisters, Elizabeth and Maria died in 1825. In 1842 Charlotte and Emily went to study languages at a school in Brussels.
Charlotte’s first novel, The Professor, was rejected by the publisher, but she then wrote Jane Eyre, which was a great succes. In 1855 she agreed to marry Mr Nicholls. She died in March 1855.

Charlotte Bronte was born at a time of great change in Britain. During this time, Britain was a rich and very strong nation. Most people during Charlotte Bronte’s time had strong religious beliefs. Marriage and church-going were thought to be very important.
Charlotte used in Jane Eyre some of her own experiences of life and love and also reflected on some of injustices of her time.

Jane Eyre

Little Jane is only 10 years old and lives in the care of her aunt. As a little girl, the girl was orphaned when her father, and then her mother, died of typhus. Since then, Jane has remained with her own uncle, Mr. Reid, but he also left the world of the living earlier than he should have.
 His wife and children consider Jane a foundling and are trying in every possible way to harm this impressionable, withdrawn and fragile girl. Every day the child is forced to listen to a lot of reproaches from his aunt and endure humiliation and cuffs from her offspring.
 Even the servants of the house look down on the unfortunate child. Jane’s main offender was cousin John, Mrs Reed’s fourteen-year-old son.

Lowood School

Jane simply couldn't stay at the Reed house any longer. Realizing this, the doctor helped to place an orphan in a boarding school.Lowood School was not the most beautiful place on earth. She found here her real ideal - the headmistress Miss Temple, a proud beauty with aristocratic features, met friends, learned a lot and, most importantly, received her pass to an adult, independent life.After eight years at the orphanage, Jane was already working there as a teacher. But the soul of a young girl is looking for something new: a graduate of the Lowood School sent a job advertisement to the newspaper, dreaming of changing her life.
