Reflection #1: The Last Spike Photo
1. What is geography through one or more of the Five Themes of Geography?
For starters this image shows place. This is because there is multiple physical characteristics inside the image such as flora (trees and plants) and rocks and stones. There is also a landform which is a mountain even though you can’t see much of it. Surprisingly this image also depicts human-environment interaction as the government remodelled it, added fences and even made a gift shop for the place to become more profitable. This was also done to keep tourists that came for the rich history of this place for longer. Additionally it shows movement as behind the last spike the railway had previously been used for centuries to transport tourists, move resources, and transport goods from one town to another. Finally it shows regions as “The last spike” shows the union between all the Canadian provinces as in the Karem there’s a rock from every province.
2. What made and makes the West by how this photograph represents the physical environment influencing the nature of political, social, and economics in the West.
This image impacted political, social and economics overall in the West as the railway was a huge job opportunity for the average person which practically anyone could work on (even children) so people came from all over the world looking for a job this boosted the economy in a major way as the immigrants worked for far less than the average person making it very cheap for the people financing the project, all these people also probably boosted the speed the railway was being made at. The railway also brought in tons of tourists coming to experience the commodity of the trains and also to be able to see the west. This obviously boosted the economy even more and inspired the government to create towns and even hotels for the workers and the tourists.
3. Your own connection and interpretation of the place the photo represents
This place is in my opinion a monument to the end of an era. An era filled great economic upturn and downfall, great ideas, things we shouldn’t repeat in the future and far more. Economic rise with great booms such as all the tourism that came to the west because of the railway and all the people that came for jobs. But downfall as well like when the railways started to become obsolete and got replaced by other ways of transport (even though some still remain up to this day). Great ideas like building hotels (like the CPR did), building whole towns for the workers and more which contributed to even more profit being made from the tourists. Finally there was also more shameful things which took place such as the difference in pay with immigrants and workers from Canada itself.

Reflection 2: Rogers Pass
In your descriptive reflection here, connect how the photo on the last page shows the following:
1. What is geography through one or more of the Five Themes of Geography?
First off it represents regions as there are mountains which are considered landforms, it also includes fauna (many species of trees). These are all physical characteristics of a place which are a clear indicator of what is and isn’t a place. It also represents human-environment interaction as there is a road in the image which shows how humans modified the road for convenience in transport. Finally this image even shows movement because just like in the last spike photo there is a railway in the picture or there at least used to be. This railway used to help people, resources and more move from one place to another. There is also clearly a road in the picture which transports hundreds of people anxious to see this places history or just people that are passing through every day.
2. What made and makes the West by how this photograph represents the physical environment influencing the nature of political, social, and economics in the West.
This image shows how the economics of the west were influenced in Rogers Pass as this place brings in many tourists and photographers alike that are either interested in this place’s history, want to take a picture of the amazing view or are just passing through and their attention was caught. This place also brings in revenue through the gift shop and the businesses that surround it which people often visit after coming to this place. But even though this place’s effect isn’t that great now it was huge back in it’s glory days. Back then people came from many different countries to ride the trains and feel the luxury and see the view. This actually affected the economy in a major way as tourism brought in tourists which bought a ton from the train’s stops and the government also made a lot of revenue from the train tickets themselves.
3. Your own connection and interpretation of the place the photo represents
This place simply represents an era when people from all over the world came to the West to see transport like it had never been seen before, to see the amazing views and even for job oportunities
