The Legend of the Maryhill Vampire

Oot from the darkness appeared a seven-foot vampire, lurking in the carriage.  She had sharp iron teeth, which she must have used to scare and capture the innocent weans.  We were feart as she approached us. She was terrifying.  As she got closer to us she started to cough and began to boke. 

We bolted to the graveyard with the dark shadow following behind us. ”Whits eh plan noo?” Jamie asked. “Just haud on, she’s comin”. As we turned around, we saw her. Iron teef, grey skin, pink eyes....

The next day I was walking into St Georges Cross Subway with my pal Jamie from St Charles’. By the way I’m Emma and I’m a pupil at St Joseph’s. The next thing a wee noisy wean started screaming, “There’s a vampire on the loose!”  We noticed a shadow on the corner and couldnae believe our eyes.

Suddenly the streets went darker and the streetlights started to flicker. It was only me and Jamie, everyone was gone and we started to shiver. Then out from the shadows a daunting figure appeared, she whispered in my ear “I want my mammy”. Both Jamie and I were paralysed with fear.

This book was a collaborative project by St Charles’ Primary and LCR and St Joseph’s Primary to celebrate national digital learning week. #NDLW19

In a rush with his hands up in the air Jamie bumped straight into a lamppost! “C’mon pal, you aurite? Let’s go, we’ve no got much time.” Jamie was always doing things like that but now was definitely not the time. Getting to his feet he said, “Whit now?” “That wild, clatty vampire is terrifying the people of Glesga on the subway and we’ve got to take her on,” I replied, “Back to the subway Jamie!” 

Then I realised, it must be the garlic I had in my school bag from my pieces.  I had seen movies before where people had used garlic to warn off vampires.  Suddenly the subway stopped.  We jumped off and left her in the carriage.  We hurried to Kelvingrove Park and hoped she didnae follow us. We then made a pact to become vampire hunters and capture this monster. 

Jamie was so scared that on the subway he’d prepared whit might be his final words. “Please dinnae kill us hen, war only weans, go fur Mr Sheridan fae school his blood will have aged like a mature wine.”

The vampire swooped! “AHHHHHHH” a blood curdling screech came from her as she lunged forwards. “We’ve got them!” came a voice from behind. We swiveled roond to see two polis looking at us, smilin.

“You’re coming with us to Maryhill Police Station”...
 ...the light of the moon reflects aff something metallic in the darkness. A seven foot tall dark figure continues her journey up Queen Margaret Drive, thankful for the weans who took her place. Where she will go next nobody knows...

Yesterday morning I was at Tesco and while my maw was gabbing to another maw, a newspaper headline caught my eye “Terrifying Vampire Capturing Innocent Children”. I couldnae believe this had happened in Maryhill.

We looked to the windae were we could see a cloud of bats circling in the sky. The shopkeeper threw the costumes at us and shrieked, “Youse can have them for free. Good luck to ye!”  We quickly transformed into vampire impersonators and raced oot of the shop.

We boosted back to the subway station and heided fur Bridge Street. We were both terrified, wanting our mammies. Then we thought of plan B, I remembered an auld story my granda tolt me of a vampire in the Southern Necropolis which killed 2 wee weans. 

Once we came oot of shock, we heard the subway approaching.  Quickly we sprinted on to it without looking back.  We were headed to Kelvingrove Park as we thought it would be a safe place with hunners of people around.  We were relieved as we thought we had run away from the daunting figure that had appeared but that wasnae the case, we could see a shadow. 

We remembered there was a shop up aheid called ‘Arty Party’. We went inside and found some vampire costumes. Our plan was to lure the vampire into a trap by making it think it wasnae the only vampire in Mary Hill.  The shopkeeper laughed when we shared our plan with him and said ‘’you weans have some imagination.” Then the sky went dark.
