French team do you recognize the monument ?

The Eiffel Tower is a Parisian monument. It owes its name to its creator, Gustave Eiffel. It measures 324 meters. It was built between 1887 and 1889 for the Universal Exhibition in Paris. The Eiffel Tower was to be destroyed after the exhibition. Knowing his monument in danger, Gustave Eiffel proposed to use the tower for meteorological experiments. He authorized the installation of an antenna for telegraphy (ancestor of the SMS). He saved the tower which is today the symbol of Paris and even of France.

Estonian team do you recognize the monument ? Could you please add a photo and a short description of the monument here ? Half of the Estonian pupils recognized the monument. The monument is situated in Tallinn but the pupils live in Pärnu, so some of them guessed that it was a similar monument in their own town Pärnu, the monument is called The Gate of Tallinn. The monument represented by the French pupils is actually the barbican of Viru Gate&nbsp;was part of the defence system of Tallinn city wall built in the 14th century. Did you know? -The tower weighs 10,100 tons. -Before having its current color (brown), the Eiffel Tower was first painted red, then yellow, then blue ... -During winter, the Eiffel Tower shrinks by 4 to 8 cm. -There is a gourmet restaurant, The Jules Verne, on the second floor of the tower. -The monument has 2,500,000 rivets. -Franz Reichelt, died at 33 on February 4, 1912, jumping from the 1st floor of the Eiffel Tower to test his invention, a parachute suit. -On the top floor is Gustave Eiffel's old apartment. -During World War II, while Hitler was visiting the capital, the cables to the Eiffel Tower's elevators were cut. If the officers and soldiers wanted to enjoy the view, they had to go up on foot (1665 steps)!

Hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran (Church of Iceland) parish church in Reykjavík, Iceland. At 74.5 metres (244 ft) high, it is the largest church in Iceland and among the tallest structures in the country. The church is named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614–1674), author of the Passion Hymns.

The monument is made with Wood beads of an old neckless and the sticks of orchid plants.

Gustave Bonickhausen called Eiffel is the engineer who designed the Eiffel Tower. He is a French engineer specialized in metal constructions. He designed many bridges, viaducts, stations throughout Europe. He even participated in the construction of the Statue of Liberty which is in New York.

The&nbsp;Ponte Vecchio&nbsp;"Old Bridge",&nbsp;is a&nbsp;medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge&nbsp;over the&nbsp;Arno River, in&nbsp;Florence, Italy. It is noted for the shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers, tanners, and farmers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewelers, art dealers, and souvenir sellers. The Ponte Vecchio's two neighboring bridges are the&nbsp;Ponte Santa Trinita&nbsp;and the&nbsp;Ponte alle Grazie.

The&nbsp;Leaning Tower of Pisa&nbsp;(torre pendente di Pisa) is the&nbsp;campanile or freestanding bell tower, of the&nbsp;cathedral&nbsp;of the Italian city of&nbsp;Pisa, known worldwide for its nearly four-degree lean, the result of an unstable&nbsp;foundation. The tower is situated behind the&nbsp;Pisa Cathedral&nbsp;and is the third-oldest structure in the city's Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo), after the cathedral and the Pisa Bathipstry. The height of the tower is 55.86 metres The tower has 296 or 294 steps. The tower began to lean during construction in the 12th century, due to soft ground which could not properly support the structure's weight, and it worsened through the completion of construction in the 14th century.

Estonian team do you recognize the monument ? Could you please add a photo and a short description of the monument here ? Estonian kids recognized the monument immediately! Tallinn's Song Festival Grounds&nbsp;were the first modern post-war construction to be built in the city, completed in 1960's. Their design took into account the nature of the land they were to be built on: audiences would be seated on the slope of the hill, so the song arch would need to echo sound to them.&nbsp;The&nbsp;Song Festival Grounds&nbsp;are a&nbsp;popular venue for events.&nbsp;It is best known&nbsp;as&nbsp;the place where every 5 years&nbsp;the Song Festival is held,&nbsp;in which&nbsp;nearly 25,000 singers take part,&nbsp;attracting an&nbsp;audience of nearly 100,000.

The Arctic Henge is located in the village of Raufarhöfn in Iceland. The project was initiated in 1996 by a local hoteliere. Construction began in 2004 and when completed it will cover an area 52 metres (170 ft) in diameter, with six meter high gates that face the main directions. The monument was built to preserve Iceland’s Nordic roots, as well as to honor some of the neo-pagan beliefs that have arisen in certain areas. The Arctic Henge is inspired by the mythical world of Eddic poem Völuspá (Prophecy of the Seeress), taking from it the concept of 72 dwarves who represent the seasons in the world of the poem, among other symbolic queues. In the Arctic Henge, 72 small blocks, each inscribed with a specific dwarven name will eventually circle four larger stone monuments, which in turn will surround a central balanced column of massive basalt blocks. Each aspect of the deliberate layout corresponds to some aspect of ancient Norse belief.

Kuressaare castle is considered one of the best preserved medieval fortifications in Estonia. Made with a Christmas bag for the water, an Amazon bag for the Castle, a fridge rug for the grass.

Estonian team recognized the monument but its was very difficult for us because only few of our pupils have visited the Kuressaare castle. The ones who have been there, love it and say that there is a very cool prison cell under the ground of the castle. The earliest written record mentioning Kuressaare castle is from the 1380s. Today the castle houses the Saaremaa Museum.
