Students Agreement

To be treated equally and as an adult. To learn at your own pace in a safe working environment. To have your privacy respected. To be involved in your learning. To talk to your tutor in confidence about your learning and how you are getting on. To be made aware of and take part in activities in the centre. To be free from bullying, slagging, intimidation and harassment.

Treat everyone in the centre with respect. Use appropriate language. Not attend class under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Be on time and prepared for your class. Be an equal partner in your learning.

Everybody must abide by the Equality Legislation which says that nobody can be discriminated against because of their gender, marital status, disability, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, sexual orientation, age or political or religious beliefs.

Anybody who does not respect the agreement may be asked to leave.

We will all enjoy the class if we… Listen.&nbsp; Be patient.&nbsp; Take turns when talking.&nbsp; Take our time and give others time to work things out.&nbsp; Work with someone else.&nbsp; Work in a small group.&nbsp; Talk about the work we are doing.&nbsp; Respect other people.&nbsp; Do not laugh at someone else – we are all doing our best. If you are not happy with your class please let your tutor know.&nbsp;

Please… ● Be on time.&nbsp; ● Try to stay for the full class.&nbsp; ● Call if you are not going to be in. ● Turn off your mobile phone. Or put it on silent – unless it is an emergency.&nbsp; ● Do not chew gum.&nbsp; ● Leave the room as you find it.&nbsp;

● Bring a pen and paper.&nbsp; ● Try and do some extra work at home.&nbsp; ● Make sure to turn your computer on and off properly.&nbsp; ● Speak English only in your class.&nbsp; ● Have food or drink in the canteen only.&nbsp; Water is fine in your class – preferably in a bottle.&nbsp;

● Behave as you would in person if you were in the building. One voice at a time, don’t interrupt and be aware of your language.&nbsp; ● Please don’t text or be on your phone during your class. Turn off or silence your phone just as you would in the classroom. ● No smoking or vaping during class.

Zoom Guidelines For Students Sometimes your class may have to be held online. When this happens you are expected to act as if you are in the building. Here are some tips for Zoom classes. Your tutor can help you with some of them.

● Find a&nbsp;quiet, private&nbsp;space.&nbsp; ● Dress as you would if you were coming into the building, no pyjamas or dressing gowns. ● Be on time. Log in to the Zoom class using the link your tutor has sent to you and wait to be admitted. ● Let all the people who live in the house know you will be online and for how long so they will not disturb you.&nbsp; ● If you need to talk to someone in your home during the class, turn off your mic and camera while having the conversation.

● Be aware of the&nbsp;lighting, make sure your face is not in shadow. If you can, move your laptop or tablet to a position where you can be seen clearly. Don’t sit in front of a window or bright light, this will make your face too dark to see. ● Mute your mic when you are admitted to the class until you need&nbsp;to talk.&nbsp; ● You can blur your background if you want to, your tutor can show you how to do this. Be mindful not to remark on anything you see in the background of other students’ homes.

● Pay attention to what is going on. Try not to get distracted and make eye contact with the speaker on the screen. ● Have all the things you need beside you e.g. pen, paper etc so you can write or take notes if you need to.
