Technical tips for illustrators

There are two ways to add pictures to your book. Option A: Draw or paint your characters on paper. Use a separate white sheet for each character. If you want to add details (clothes, tools, animals) draw them as separate pictures. Then upload your pictures to https://www.remove.bg/upload This will make them transparent. If you would like to do this on your phone, use a background eraser app. Now you can upload your transparent pictures to the book. You can change the size, move them around and use your details (clothes, animals, tools...) wherever you need them. For the background, just take a photo of your picture and upload it.

Tips for the illustrators

Before you start drawing have a good look at some nice picture books. Look at the pictures carefully. How are the characters drawn? What do you see in the background? Where is the text? Practice a bit in your group. What do you want your characters and your backgrounds to look like? In your group, decide what style and techniques you want to use: color pencils, felt tip pens, water colors or directly on your screen? Decide who will draw the characters and who will draw the background pictures.

Have other people tried to solve the problem? How? How is your hero going to solve the problem? What is his/her plan? Does it work? Describe all these things in detail. Use as many pages as you want.

Option B: Drawing directly on the screen

You can draw your characters directly on the screen with your fingers or with a touchpen. Make your character as big as possible, you can then make the picture smaller any time. Try this out and see how it works for you. Here, I have drawn my characters and I have added some extras: I have drawn a red cloak -- and then copied it behind my character. Now he is wearing the red superhero cloak. I have also added a blue balloon for the little boy.

Final tips for illustrators

Now you need to think of the final touches of your book. 1. Design a nice coverpage for your book. Add a beautiful picture and the title of the story. Use nice, big letters. On your cover page we also need to see the firstnames of all the group members who have contributed to the book. Write these in a smaller font (12-14 pts) the bottom of the page. Written by... Illustrated by... Voice recordings by ..... 2. Go through all your pages again and add little details. Check the language. 3. You can now move around the pages and delete all the instructions pages and instructions in your book.

Ten Rules of Being a Superhero

Describe the situation after the problem has been solved.

Title: Find a really good title for your story. Your title should make your readers interested in the story. Do not give away all your secrets in your title. Write your title on the cover page of your book.

Now it's time to read your story and record your voice.

In this book your superhero can have his/her own voice. You have several options: A: Read the story and record it directly into the app. Practice this several times and use your voice to make your story interesting. Show the characters' feelings: Use a happy voice, a sad voice, a young voice, an old voice... an animal voice... B: You can also add some dialog parts and read in two voices. Let your hero speak directly --- maybe your hero and some of the characters want to make some additional comments. C: Would you like to record the story in another language? Tell us the story in Italian, in Greek, in German, in Romanian. D: For very creative people: You can act out a scene and record a video on your phone. You can then include the video on the page.

Superheroes of our World Where can we find them?

Real superheros in our world do NOT fly.

They do not wear hero suits and hit and fight.

They do NOT shoot with bows and arrows or fight with magic swords.

Start writing your text on this page. Describe your hero. What do the readers need to know about him or her? What is his or her name, age, looks, hobbies....... What does he or she do in life? Start like this...

Work in your group and plan your story. Start by answering the following questions in your group. What problem does your superhero have to solve? Who needs his/her help? What is the setting of your story? Where does it play? Who is your superhero in everyday life? What are his/her secret superpowers? How does he /she use his superpowers to solve the problem? When you have found good answers for all these questions, you are ready to write your story. Write your text directly into this book. You can delete all the instruction pages and example pages later. Your first draft of the text can look messy. Do NOT worry about layout at all.

Now it's your turn: In this project we will create a SERIES of books called INVISIBLE SUPERHEROES IN OUR WORLD

The heroes in our stories look and act like normal people, so at first nobody suspects or knows that they have some superpowers. In the course of your story, your superhero will show his/her powers in a good way. You will be working in teams and create your own superheroes book. Each group will consist of writers, illustrators and "voices". In your team you must work together and help each other to make a perfect storybook. Think of a problem you want to solve? Who needs your superhero's help? How is your superhero going to solve the problem? Discuss these questions in your team. Then go to the next page.

Congratulations! You have produced your first book.

The writers will write the story. Follow the tips for the writers on pages 15 - 20. All the tips for writers are written in yellow. You can write your text directly into this book. Later you can delete all the pages and tips that you do not need. Do not worry about layout. We can fix this later.

The illustrators will draw and paint the characters and the background pictures. What do the characters in your story look like? Where does the story play? What kind of background images will you need? The illustrators will find more tips in the following pages. All your pages are written in orange color.

Recording your voice: When the text is finished, the writers will record the story -- or act out some scenes. You will find more tips for recording your voice on page 21 of this booklet. All the tips for voice-recording are written in blue.
