What Is Child Labor?

Child labor is when children are forced to work against there own will (alone that's illegal). There is many laws in place so that "children shall not work or their caretakers and work-givers will be put on trial" and is a crime so bad you can be put on the death sentence!

Child labor is primarily agriculture but surprisingly started during the industrial revolution, where machines and factories were starting to take over the world. And stopped during the "great depression."Children are used because of their small size.

How Much Child Labor Is There?
About half of child labor is in Africa (not surprising) and the other half is just spread out everywhere. Over 1 half is just kids only about 5-11! that is like you working in preschool to 6th grade! over 88 million boys and 64 million girls are doing this dangerous work. The second worst place for child labor is in Bangladesh, somewhere in Asia.
Is It Dangerous?
When you think child labor, what's the first thing you think of? It's probably some hard, grueling, dangerous work that children are doing. And if you thought of that, your right! More than half of child labor is dangerous. Like mining, working with molten metal (to make pipes, frames, etc.) , glass working, and many other dangerous things!

Do They Earn Money?
Sometimes. So they do all the work all the time, and they usually don't even earn money! That's not fair, adults work and get paid. These kids work 7 days a week sometimes 10 hours a day and they either get 1 rupee or nothing! one rupee is equivalent to 0.0071 dollars in the USA or 0.0095 Canadian dollars!
People Who Stand Up
Iqbal Masih was a young adult who was sold into child labor, to pay off an equivalent of 12$ (1680 rupees in Pakistan) so, it was kinda a lot for them but, anyways, Iqbal was sold into a carpet company that puts children to work. He tried to escape twice, and on the second time he made it out.
The group of people against child labor, known as ACE (Action against Child Exploitation), were the people who saved Iqbal from the child labor company. Even though they saved Iqbal, he was brutally murdered on April 16, 1995, on his way back from church on Easter. I mean who would kill on Easter, that's just wrong.
The Terrorists of Pakistan
Also known as Taliban, they are the terrorists that killed Iqbal Masih and many other innocent people. These awful people work in Afghanistan and Pakistan, their leader (the one who formed the group) is Mullah Mohammed Amos. Most members are Pashtun (an ethnic group) and are trying to remove foreign influence from the country.
