Even if the Southern Colonies have indigo, the Middle Colonies have rye, hemp, and flax.

One VERY common moneymaking job in the Middle, Southern, and New England colonies is tree cutting for wood. The Middle colony has big forests perfect for getting wood.

You can also get rich by building ships, fur trading, and mining.

Farming is one popular industry in the Middle Colonies. People grow wheat corn, rye, hemp, and flax. The Middle Colonies have much better soil for farming than the New England Colonies because they have rocky soil.

The Middle Colonies fascinating geography!

There were harsh and cold winters, but there were also hot summers.

The Middle Colonies have deep rivers for fishing, vast valleys, and immense forests perfect for gathering wood for houses and buildings.

You know what's better about the Middle Colonies than the Southern Colonies? The Middle Colonies have iron, and the Southern Colonies have to work much harder to grow crops.

Why Pennsylvania was founded

Pennsylvania was founded from an English Quaker named William Penn, whose father gave England's King Charles II tons of money. After William's father died, King Charles II repaid William Penn with land. That land is now Pennsylvania. In Penn's colony anyone is welcome. He even respected the Indians around the colony.
