The National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) is funded by the Department for Education and marks a significant investment in improving the provision of computing education in England.

Run by a consortium made up of STEM Learning, the Raspberry Pi Foundation and BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, our vision is to achieve a world-leading computing education for every child in England.

What the NCCE aims to achieve
The NCCE aims to improve the expertise of computing teachers from primary to KS5 – so they are able to teach the new knowledge-based computing curriculum, and the new computer science content including at GCSE and A level.

COMPUTING COMMUNITY
Subject Matter Experts
We offer fully-funded consultancy and guidance to primary schools located in Local Authority Districts 5 or 6 through a network of computing education specialists, called Subject Matter Experts. Your local expert can help you to complete a three year action plan to improve your computing offer, and identify the most appropriate CPD to upskill your staff. 

CAS Communities of Practice
Communities of Practice - run by Computing at School (CAS) - are local networks of computing teachers that share expertise, resources and best practice to encourage strong and effective teaching.

Barefoot
Barefoot provides local computational thinking workshops and classroom-ready resources to help you teach primary computing.

Code Club
Code Club is an extracurricular club for young people aged 9-13. Clubs are organised by teachers and volunteers, and supported by free projects and resources from Code Club. Young people can progress through projects to create games, animations and web pages using Scratch, Python or HTML/CSS.

Teach Computing Curriculum
A complete curriculum containing everything needed to teach computing at key stages 1 to 4, including lesson plans, slides, worksheets, homework and assessment.
All of the content is completely free to access, and has been created by subject experts, based on the latest pedagogical research and teacher feedback. Choose your resources by key stage.

PRIMARY CERTIFICATION
Certificate awarded by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT

This is a professional development programme designed to support teachers from all backgrounds who want to improve their knowledge of computing. Certification can help you cover new areas while also reinforcing the skills you already have. Think of it as a refresher course that can help you identify and overcome your problem areas.

The programme is suitable for those already teaching or planning to teach computing and will help teachers to fill potential gaps in their knowledge.

1. update your skills and be recognised for your subject knowledge
2. feel more confident to teach this high demand subject across the curriculum
3. choose from face-to-face and online modules to suit your learning needs
4. save time on lesson planning and gain inspirational teaching ideas
5. meet teachers in your area to share ideas

We hope you find the programme supportive and that it helps to give you the confidence to teach computing in your school.
BURSARIES & FEES
We offer financial support to state-funded schools and colleges across England, including bursaries to support continuing professional development and curriculum delivery.

Funding and fees
Our online courses for key stages 1-4 are free to all teachers. 

Face-to-face and remote courses are fully-funded or subsidised for teachers in state-funded education.

Teachers from state-funded schools or colleges





Trainee, supply and returning computer science teachers
Courses which are part of the Computer Science Accelerator are free to trainee teachers, supply teachers and returning computer science teachers.

Teachers from independent schools
£50 per hour on a short course or a fee of £220 per full day course is payable for independent schools for any of our face-to-face or remote courses.

Bursaries for schools and colleges
We offer bursaries to state-funded schools to enable teachers to participate in remote and face-to-face courses during the school day. Bursaries are not available for sessions starting after 1430.

One bursary per state-funded school can be claimed in a given academic year.
* For primary courses, the bursary is available for one teacher per school in an academic year.
