The Climbing Community During the Lockdown

Hopefully the lockdown will end soon, The Hive has already begun resetting all of their climbs for a nice start to the summer and I will be one of the first to climb.

I took screenshots of six of the hive fitness announcements and then put them together.

The Hive also started hosting online fitness sessions for their Instagram and Facebook followers. They were of help to many people, for flexibility and strength.

I took a screenshot of one of our workouts.

We also started doing our own Zoom workouts.

This is Fraser’s home climbing wall which he is building.

Some of us also decided that the quarantine would be the perfect time to build our own private walls, I personally know four people who have built or are building their own walls.

But then the government decided to close climbing gyms to enforce the social distancing act and slow down the spread of Coronavirus. This meant that the climbing community had to go home and stay there, no more climbing for them.

This is a picture of the notice that The Hive put on their front door which said in short that they were temporarily closing due to the coronavirus. 

I took this picture on the rock beside Quarry Rock where the actual quarry was.

After a while people stopped climbing outside too.

Here in this spot you can see me climbing. This picture was taken during a small comp which took place on the Sunday before spring break.

At first those of us that weren’t too worried had a good time climbing and went out into the community.  The Hive (the North Van climbing gym) took precautions such as making hand washing highly recommended and pushing for higher sanitation. They also told everyone to stay home if sick.

I biked around Deep Cove until I found a nice boulder, I then started climbing around. Then I took some pictures.

We, the people started looking for local boulders to do some climbing on.

My name is Jakub and I go to school in Seycove where I take part in PLP. I also love to go climbing at the Hive and when it’s open, go three times a week. My hobbies are Lego, climbing, and collecting 1/64 cars. Out of those three my top two are Lego and climbing because climbing is an activity and there are always new routes and there’re so many techniques to climb with, and Lego because there’s so much you can build and create with it. I live in Deep Cove. I love to go outside and explore the wilderness, especially in places where I know how to get back and won’t get lost.      Thanks for reading!
