Going Coastal 2023

I am exited to see this particular part of the Oregon coast because there is so much to see on just that one piece of land. 

I am most exited to see a fox. I heard that we where going to a Woolf sanctuary and I think that they have foxes too. I would really love to see a fox because they are amazing animals and I have never seen one before!

Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

Today at the Hatfield marine science center, we made r.o.v    Robots. R.o.v stands for remotely operated vehicle. We had to design our r.o.v. Robots to pick up magnetic items at the bottom of a small pool ful of water. While we where majong our r.o.v robots, we faced many chalenges. One of which was that we made the robot to big. this was a problem because it was heavy and it was hard to maneuver because of its size. We overcame this by taking of one of the sides so it was more compact and easier to move.

Why do you need citizen scientists: scientists are so important and they effect the world greatly. If we didn’t have scientist we would not now nearly as much as we do now. Without them people would be sending around potently wrong information and people wouldn’t even be aware of it. Since we have scientists, we have professionals with reliable information that can be safely shared to the world

I could not download a picture of me zip lining

I think that activities like zip lining around this area is a really fun thing to do with your family.  Living here, it might be hard to find a job or earn money. With this small ziplining business, it allows a lot more people to get better payed and it is also a great opportunity for young adults or teens to het there first job.

Wolf haven is a very special place. They have over 45 rescue wolves that they have rescued for many diferent causes. They are at wolf haven because of things like, they are to comfortable with humans, they are an endangered species, they where abandoned from there mother at a young age and many more scenarios. I have learned so much about wolves just from this little time i was here. The staff members where so full of information and so exited to share there knowledge. If i was driving past here, i would definetly come here again!

Describe the criteria you used for your experiment. What were the results. What conclusions can you draw from those results.

The first time i did a quest with my group we faces lots of struggles and ended up not having enough time to finish. When we did our seconde quest we had a group talk about how we could improve from last time. When we did our second quest, we where a lot faster at finding the clues the cause we where not overthinking it to much. We did so well that we actually found the stamp first. Because everyone was already their, they saw us take it and ran back to the teachers faster than us and they won. Next time if we do a quest i think we should work faster.

At cannon beach the tide was to high so we did not see any tide pools but here is my drawing of a star fish that i was hoping to see:

Cannon Beach is most well known for the haystack Rock. It is sometimes called the third largest intertidal rock in the world.

Columbia River Maritime Museum Crossing the Bar Section

Would you be willing to &apos;cross the bar&apos;: yes and no, if i where an explorer and i devoted my life into exploration and the finding of new land i would most definitely cross the bar. The huge waves would Mae it interesting and fun.  On other hands, me today, i would be way to scared to cross the bar because i would get very sea sick and i would be terrified of loosing my life.

Today we saw whales from the whale watching center look out!

Depoe Bay is known as the worlds smallest navigatable harbor. On March 11, 2011, the port was damaged by a tsunami caused by an earthquake off the coast of Oregon 

Today at wolf haven i got a video of the wolves howling at a train that was going by. This is an amazing sound to hear. (Make sure to turn the volume up!)

Why can you not bring rocks home from the beach: Imagine everyone who came to Yaquina head took a rock from the beach, there would be none left. They are leaving the rocks for more people to enjoy!

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

The indigenous people of Astoria were deeply affected by the new colonists who came to trade and find new land. The indigenous people were very surprised when these new people from a different land, came to explore. There were good and bad outcomes to this. The colonizers came with many goods/resources that the indigenous have never seen before. Since this was very different to many of the resources they had before, they traded animal pelts and other things, for things like; copper, silver, gold and weapons. This contributed to the start of the fur trade. The colonists also partially took over and invaded their land as well. This majorly changed the indigenous peoples world view. Their way of living completely changed after this. Before they were sustainably living of the land in peace and harmony. Once&apos;s the colonists came it all changed. The colonizers started harvesting the salmon and resources without even thinking about the indigenous people and how it was affecting them. This was a hard time for the indigenous people and this still effects their culture today.

I learned that the whales that we saw where most likely from California and they migrated here because of the food

DID YOU KNOW:  The Astoria Column is  125 feet tall and is covered on the outside by a  Freize that depicts a story about the first settlers who came to Astoria.

This vidio slideshow really represents my day. I made this vidio in clips and I added all of my favourite videos. This is a really fun way to look back on this trip and all the fun memory’s I made.

1851: (the start of tillamook creamery) The first settlers arriving in Tillamook Valley foun a silver lining to the wet, cold climate. All that rain causes green, green grass, perfect for raising dairy cows.

The army helmets where used in the war by the people who where working during that time. I noticed that the hats that were different to other army helmets that I have seen before. To me, they looked like they had tan and green netting, strings and different fabrics on the top of the helmets. I was curious to why they looked like that and I wanted to know the reason was to having fabric on them. When I talked to the reenactors from Fort Steven&apos;s, they told me that it is to prevent people from seeing them in the forest. This made sense why they were coloured like that. Since there are no perfectly round things in nature, they added more natural shapes and colours to the bare, green, round helmets. This was really interesting to me and I am glad that I asked the reenactors that question.
