Hatfield Marine Science Center Speedy Science

For our experiment we did number of legs. Which we thought the crab with more legs would be faster. In conclusion over all the crab with more was faster, but in danger the crab when basically the same speed.

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

 The arrival of the first colonists effect the first people in many ways. But one way they definitely did benefit there community is trade, as they brought a lot of it. Trade is a major benefit to a community as if they don’t have a certain resource, or it is hard to obtain they can trade to get it. They used to river and the coast as a way to trade.  Which the first peoples used Western Red cedar as an item to trade, as it was their main source, and they could collect a lot of it more easily than other items.

The Audubon society is really important as it is a safe habitat for birds. There really is quite a bit of meaning around the area and it’s definitely a place birds can come, and say hi to some of there birds. Which have either been imprinted, or are healing. I’d say there main motivation is helping, not just birds, but all animals are taken in there. Birds are definitely a focus of the society but they help, and have helped many other animals other then birds. This helps keep many species of birds, and other animals alive, which has a huge impact on the environment. I think places like Audubon are definitely super important and needed in the world.

Depoe Bay is known as the smallest navigatable harbor. On March 11, 2011, the port was damaged by a tsunami caused by an earthquake off the coast of Japan.

At Fort Stevens I learned that we saw the only 360 degree disappearing rifle in the world. It was one of two created in the world, but it is the only one left. Which is really cool to think about because as many places  i may travel in the future i will never see another one of those. I also learned many new things about the civil war, like how the bunkers, rifles, etc here were just in case something did happen but nothing major ever did happen here. 

Attractions like this are important because they bring memories, and profit. In a smaller town like this tourist love more unique attractions, as this zipline has many unique aspects. With it’s bar, and campfire this is a place anyone can come, so that’s why these attractions as especially important.

I feel like I would cross the bar, although it would be very dangerous as of how choppy the water is. But with the right boat you would probably be able to safely make to the end. But since the bar is very dangerous you would have to bring all the right supplies. The bar has been said to be one of the most dangerous parts of the ocean so I would have to keep that in mind.

Tillamook was founded here as in 1909 a few small local creameries came together to ensure the production of the highest quality milk, dairy products and the collective wellbeing of the local dairy farmers. So they formed the Tillamook Country Creamery Association.

There is a tsunami machine in the Visitors Center as they are at water front and there has been a tsunami near there before. So I they are trying to show the damages it can cause, and spread awareness about what could happen.

You can’t bring home rocks from here as they aren’t really like regular rocks, as of there shape. Also if everyone brought home a rock eventually there wouldn’t be many left.

Cannon Beach is most well known for Haystack Rock. It is sometimes called the third largest intertidal rock in the world.

What I’m most excited to see on the trip

I’m excited to see the aquarium in Oregon as it doesn’t look like a regular aquarium, there is lots of tunnels with the animals swimming all around you. I usually don’t like aquariums but this one looks way more interesting and fun.

I want to see an orca whale while we are there as i have never seen one and they look very fascinating. So hopefully while on the boat one jumps out of the water. As they look so amzing and it would be awesome to see one.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Estuary Investigation

The world needs citizen scientists as even thought they aren’t real scientists they do help come closer to or do find a conclusion. As they can collect data, helping scientists gain further knowledge on that specific subject. For example if we did bring back the ghost shrimp and measure them, etc then we would send the data we collect in and they could use that information. It also gives citizen more of a chance to engage and actually see into a tiny part of what’s its like to be a scientist, and how much they do. Overall being a citizen scientist give people a greater perspective and scientists input from citizens.

I learned a bit more  about male and female sea lions. The male sea lions live out here in Oregon, and the female sea lions live out in California.

Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

Our group had a couple of challenges, but in the end we manage to create a pretty awesome R.O.V. One main challenge we had was fitting everything in the small model we wanted to create, as we kept forgetting about things we had to add, and ended up needing to redo our design a few times. But in the end we came up with a solid design. Another problem that really effected us in the challenge was the placement of our magnet, at first it was just taped to the front, and after a few rounds of the challenge we realized that wasn’t really the best idea. So in the last round we changed the placement of the magnet so it was dangling down instead flat in the front. This made it a lot better for picking up all the utensils etc. In the end our R.O.V. worked pretty good after we made all the adjustments, especially with the magnet. Which next time I think we should definitely keep the end placement of the magnet, but maybe change the placements of type motors.

The Astoria Column is 125 feet tall and is covered on the outside by a mural that depicts the found of Oregon and the Native Americans.
