Opportunities for Learners
This project aims to:
Develop skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing another language.
Promote Literacy across learning.
Link Languages across the curriculum through interdisciplinary short tasks and longer projects.
Facilitate transitions from one class to another, one level to another and from primary to secondary.
Connect learners and share work through innovative use of technology.
Celebrate learning and give learners a chance to showcase their work, give feedback & develop next steps in their learning journey.
Task
Task: Choose a game/traditional playground game & play it (outside) using another language & share it with others.
Curricular Areas - Literacy, Languages, Technology, HWB & Outdoor Learning
L2/3: I can use and/or understand language I am learning eg. numbers, colours, animals
HWB & Outdoor Learning: I can participate in a game (outside) and develop skills such as turn taking, listening or working with others.
Literacy: I can summarise & explain the main points of the game to someone else. I can remember key words.
Technology: I can use digital technology to share my work.
Where do I start?
1) Take a look at these playground games & activities that work well outside & choose one. See what games other countries play! Are they the same?

2) Decide what language you want to practise & teach learners the key vocabulary.

3) Have a go at playing the game to practise the core vocabulary!

4) Decide how you are going to share what you have done with others (read on for some ideas), what language learners will use & who you are going to share it with.
Examples
Nursery
Duck Duck Goose
A great game as a warm up or plenary for any lesson - inside or outside.
Top tips: Encourage all learners to chant the words with the caller to practise. Introduce phrases like schnell - quickly or give praise eg. great - toll!
Task
1) Choose a topic eg. greetings

2) Think of a few words on this topic eg. Guten Tag, Tschüss, Auf Wiedersehen

3) Play Duck Duck Goose using words from your topic eg. Guten Tag, Guten Tag, Tschüss
Want a challenge? Learn some new words & play the game or use phrases. Click here for some videos with core language in German on different topics.
Hello = Guten Tag

Goodbye = Auf Wiedersehn

Bye - Tschüss
Sharing this game: Draw a picture of stick people playing this game.
