Matthew was doing his work as a tax collector when Jesus called him to be one of His disciples. Matthew was in Capernaum when Jesus called him. He was also known as Levi, son of Alpheus (Mark 2:1-17). As a tax collector who took money from Jews to deliver to the Roman empire, Matthew was a despised people, they did not like him. As a disciple of Jesus, he now became a member of a group who changed their priorities and followed Jesus.
