Hatfield Marine Science Center Speedy Science

For our experiment we studied wether crabs with all there legs or if crabs which were missing legs were faster. Are findings were that crabs with all there legs were faster. In my group was Nya, Annie and Ryan. I don’t think our findings are 100% correct because sometimes the crabs just didn’t want to run. Overall it was an interesting experiment.

My group worked really well together. The first time we went we kind of sucked because we got distracted and didn’t really read the entire clues. After we came back for the first are group got sent back. When we got back for the first time our teachers re-read the clues with us and sent us back out. When we were back out there we tried to hide from another group and Ryan said to become the sedges and when we hid in the sedges Julien found a path, the path led to the rest of the clues. Overall, our group is really good and fun we communicate really well. Our group needs to get less distracted but we are getting better at it. 

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

When The first Colonist arrived the First Nations were greatly affected. Before the colonist arrived the First Nations were connected with other groups over a vast trading network using the Columbia river, the western red cedar was quite important to them. When the first colonists arrived they liked the fur which the First Nations had and the First Nations like their products. So then a event called the fur trade started. I think that the First Nations worldview changed immensely when the colonists came as before they were less developed and had a traditional worldview for there culture and when the colonists arrived they started to view the world in a more western way.

I hope to see a Cougar because I have never seen one before. Also, they’re Magnificent animals and one of the Apex predators in the Pacific Northwest. I also think Cougars are super cool and have for years

I want to see the Wreck Peter Iredale because I have never seen a large shipwreck before and it seems super cool. Also, I love to be on the beach.

Tillamook Cheese Factory and Izzy’s Buffet

Tilamook creamery was founded in Tilamook because Tialmook is super moist. The reason why Tilamook being super moist is key to a cheese factory is that the moisture helps grow the grass quicker. When there is more grass there is more food for the cows. Evidently, more food for the cows is a good thing when your entire business depends on cow products. 

The Astoria Column is 125 feet tall and is covered on the outside by a frieze that depicts American history.

I like this video because it shows are first some of the drive and it just kind of looks cool.

Hatfield Marine Science Center R.O.V. Challenge

The challenges our group faced during the ROV challenge was steering, flotation and design. The first major challenge our group faced during the task was at the very start. We had troubles deciding where to put our motors and where to put our magnet we actually didn’t have our design anything like it was in the start. First of all, our motors were not in the back like we originally planned they ended up in the front 

I think that businesses like High Life Adventures are super important to small towns because they bring tourist activity. Especially, businesses that have lots of character like high life will make people come from near by cities to see them and it will not just bring business to the place there coming to but it will also bring business to the other businesses like how high life will likely bring people also to the restaurants around it.

Depoe Bay is known as the smallest navigatable harbor. On March 11, 2011, the port was damaged by a Tsunami caused by an earthquake off the coast of Japan.

The reason you can’t bring rocks home from cobble beach is because they came from a massive volcanic eruption in Yellowstone. These rocks make a special habitat for sea animals. If everyone who came cobble beach there would be no rocks left and that would ruin this special place.

Columbia River Maritime Museum Crossing the Bar Section

I would cross the bar now. Although, it is rough we have developed much safer methods. I don’t think I would cross the bar the bar if it wasn’t for commercial use. Crossing the bar on a small-medium sized boat doesn’t seem smart and I wouldn’t cross in any massive waves.

During WW2 There was a secret operation at Fort Stevens. It was called the Harbor Operation. This operation caused the military to seal the base off from poisonous gas attacks. This operation was to control the access to the Columbia River. This project ended in 1947. 

Hatfield Marine Science Center Animal Adaptations

When animals adapt to their environments they change themselves to fit their environment. Often, these adaptations include, changing there colour or changing there body. For example, the porcelain crab can grasp rocks with its flexible limbs. This Adaptation is useful as the beach’s it lives on are often quite wavy and if it didn’t have this adaptation it would get carried away, way out into the ocean. Another Example is, Sea Urchins. Sea Urchins have adapted to have spines to ward off predators.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Visitors Center

There is a Tsunami Machine in the visitor center for a few of key reasons. First of all to help show people the risks of a Tsunami, as Newport Oregon is in major risk from a Tsunami. Also, this is important to show people how a Tsunami works, as many people don’t know how a Tsunami works. Lastly, I think another reason there is one here is because they want people to come here and it provides another reason to come here.

I think that the Northwest Trek is incredibly important. Firstly, it provides safe homes for animals which are endangered or used to be endangered. Also, this park helps inform people about animals and just lets them see animals. That, makes people more interested in animals which means they will be more willing to help them. I think the reason the Northwest Trek is still so committed is because, they have seen the effects they can have on the survival of a specie. They want to insure all the amazing animals that live in the pacific-northwest will be around for future generation to enjoy.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Assemble a Whale

I think are group worked very well together well assembling the whale. We communicated quite well and we all contributed. One of our biggest problems were probably the spine area as we needed to take more time. I think the thing which went the best was how well we communicated and worked as a team. The thing which we need to improve on the most is taking our time. I’m not sure exactly what species of whale we assembled but it was a 5 or so meter long, toothed whale.
