Prologue

Once upon a time, on a distant planet there was beautiful twin cities named somnia and naturea. Everything was well until one day disaster struck. An earthquake occurred and it destroyed the bridge between the two cities. These people weren’t very advanced yet, they thought this earthquake was caused by the god of the underground and the god of the sea fighting. After, millions of years these plates drifted far apart as they were on a divergent plate boundary. A divergent plate boundary is when two plates move away from each other like when you try to put the same end of two magnets together they push apart.

After 5 million years, both cities became incredibly advanced. But things became worse once Somnia developed planes strong enough to make it to Naturea, as the ocean to Naturea was super stormy cold and rocky, it was nearly impassable by boat. Somnia’s leader blamed Naturea for purposely making the plates move apart from each other although it was just the work of divergent plates. Somnia’s leader said they would banish anyone from Naturea to ever come back to Somnia.

After awhile, Somnia got into major trouble as there was a large convection current occurred underneath it. A convection current is similar to a circular motion of molten rock, air or water. Convection currents rely on having a hot area on the bottom which for examples heats up the molten rock and because warm stuff rises the hot stuff starts rising it replaces the cold stuff above it and then the cold stuff gets heated up and repeats the process. Convection currents can move tectonic plates if they occur below a planets surface. This convection current caused a convergent plate boundary, a convergent plate boundary is when two plates meet and the heavier moves under the other one. The convergent plate boundary caused many earthquakes. Somnia needed help and there was only one person who could provide a 13 year old boy from naturea his name was Alex.

Chapter 1

Alex woke up to the sound of his pet griffin, Soar chirping. The sunlight was streaming into his window and he was going to the coast today to meet up with his friend Roy Roy they were going to surf, go fishing and train.

Just a week ago when Roy Roy and I were surfing we discovered something amazing I could create earthquake and Roy Roy could control water.

Roy Roy’s ability to control the water became very useful when I accidentally created a 30 foot Tsunami.

I turned on my phone to check out the if there was any new posts on Picturegram when I saw the massive news. “Story 13 year old boy stops Tsunami Accidentally Created By Friend!”

I go to see if my parents are home soon remembering that they are on a overnight work trip. Katie my younger sister is already outside playing with here Ella, a halcon which is a horse crossed with they falcon. I say hi to her and then tell her to get out of my fish pond area which she was not happy with.

I go to Soars house and tell him to that were going on a trip to the coast today he chirps happily at that.

As Alex is flying over to the coast he is thinking about the Tsunami he created last week. Tsunami’s are waves caused by earthquakes. Tsunami’s are not like normal waves, a better way to think about them is when you throw a rock into water and the ripples it makes, that is what Tsunami waves are except the rock that you throw is the shifting crust.












Finally, I see the Roy Roy’s house. Roy Roy is waxing his surfboard. As I swoop down on soar Roy Roy and go say hi to Roy Roy Soar shrieks and whines. That’s weird I say to Roy Roy normally Soar is really calm. Roy Roy says wow just a minute ago I saw Daisy my dog whining. The ground starts to shake and I exclaim “its an earthquake!” Roy Roy says “did you create it?” I say, “I don’t think I can create one this strong!” As suddenly as it starts it ends and Roy Roy says “Instead of surfing and Fishing lets just research and train today.” I exclaim “Yes, lets!”

Roy Roy and I pull out our phones and start researching earthquakes hear are a few facts.
#1 earthquakes are ground movement caused by shifting tectonic plates.
#2 Earthquakes have an epicentre or a middle which is where the shaking is the strongest this is often deep underground
#3 Earthquakes create faults which is like a ravine occurring at the surface
#4 Roy Roys house is on a transform plate boundary which is when 2 plates are sliding against each other
#5 Over millions of years the continents move due to convection currents and create and break up continents
#6 Where Roy Roy and I surf on the coast is near a Subduction zone which is when two plates when a heavy plate moves under a lighter plate.
#7 Earths surface is many rocky plates.
#8 When Scientists first discovered the theory of Plate tectonics very few people believed eventually though more and more people started believing it until it became widely excepted.
#9 Most Volcanoes occur near an Oceanic plate boundary.

Chapter 2

After a long day of Training I have gotten a lot more powerful and learned a lot about Plate Tectonics and Tectonic Plates which are the pieces of the crust which move. I am now strong!

As I’m going to bed I see a shadow move next to my window it looks like someone although I shrug it off it’s probably just my Dad he’s likes picking fruit and his favourite berry is in season. At 4:16am I wake up and find some stranger standing over my bed I’m about to scream when he says, “its fine and he won’t hurt me he is just here to ask for a favour and this was the only time he could.” He says “That his people in Somnia have been riddled by earthquakes over the past 40 years and he would like my help to move his plate closer to ours so there will be less earthquakes and Volcanic activity in his country.” I ask him what he will give me and he says, “he will give a free entrance to university in Somnia the right to travel to Somnia and a pardon for my people.” I say, “Alright let me leave a note for my parents and get soar ready.”

I ask him if my friend Roy Roy who can prevent Tsunamis from happening can come and will get the same the same deal. He says, “Sure.” I go text Roy Roy on my Phone and tell if we accepts we will be there at 11:45pm tonight. At 7:39am he replies and “Sure!”

Chapter 2

After a long day of Training I have gotten a lot more powerful and learned a lot about Plate Tectonics and Tectonic Plates which are the pieces of the crust which move. I am now strong!

I ask him if my friend Roy Roy who can prevent Tsunamis from happening can come and will get the same the same deal. He says, “Sure.” I go text Roy Roy on my Phone and tell if we accepts we will be there at 11:45pm tonight. At 7:39am he replies and “Sure!”

As We arrive in Somnia at 5am the next day we see there Capitol Buildings they’re unlike anything I have ever seen Before. There amazing! Sean Wellington that’s Somnia’s leaders name says we will land in the docking bay in the tower over there.

Chapter 3

After a week more of training Roy Roy and I were ready to move the plates. The First day was such hard work I only moved there super small plate 14 meters I had to move it 8000 Kilometres! How am I ever going to do that! But after a week I got better on the last day I moved the plate 96 metres. During the first week I moved the plate a total of 409 metres! I know that probably doesn’t seem like that much but considering normally the plates move at 2.5 centimetres per year that’s a lot! After 3 months I had gotten real good I could move the plates 16.8 kilometres per day after my first month I job I had moved the plates 513 kilometres!

Behind us seafloor spreading was occurring and creating underwater volcanoes which will eventually create new Islands! Sea floor spreading is when near a divergent plate Boundary the sea floor spreads as the plates are pulling apart and lava is coming up and creating new sea floor.

After 2 years on the job I managed to get the 8000 kilometres but I was offered another deal, Bring the Somnian plate all the way into the naturea plate and I would earn $2,000,000,000 or $2 billion. I of course accepted the deal.

Chapter 3

It took 4 more months to finish the job and when the plates crashed something amazing happened this beautiful mountain range occurred. Mountain ranges occur when two plates pushing against each other push rock up into the air.

When the islands became connected again I was considered a hero along with Roy Roy and a massive party was announced for us in the mountains we created. It’s gonna be awesome.

Chapter 4

Okay Alex time to go says my mom. I’m so excited but I’m also a little bit nervous because I have to do 2 speeches tonight one about my journey and the other about the potential which could happen now that we have second plate boundary near Naturea.

So as we are arriving at the party I go to the backstage area and shake hands with both Sean Wellington and Austin Presley the leader of naturea. Sean Wellington thanks me and calls me a hero and Austin Presley says that I’m one the strongest people in all of Naturea and Somnia! I thank them both and head to the stage were Roy Roy is just finishing up his speech. I give my first speech and prepare to give my speech about the dangers the tectonic activity poses. The number one risk is probably the Volcanic Activity in the mountains. The reason volcanoes are rising is because when you have to plates pushing into each other sometimes mountains rise and then magma rises up into the mountains and eventually the pressure builds up and it erupts. Luckily for us these mountains will likely just leak lava from vents. Although, there is a risk for some of them to blow there tops off in a dangerous volcanic eruption which could create Pyroclastic flows which are really dangerous. Also, we don’t just risk Volcanic activity we also risk tectonic activity and Tsunamis.
