Head of School: This Month at St Uny CE Academy

Fabulous FOSUA! We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to the FOSUA for organising so many brilliant experiences for our pupils this term. The children all had a wonderful time at Elfridges this year, the team of elves looked fabulous! The Christmas Disco later in December was also a huge success. On top of the Christmas experiences, the FOSUA have continued to support the school in providing a range of resources and experiences this term. Thank you team FOSUA - you are our heroes!

Christingle at St Anta Church On Tuesday 12th December, Year 2 - Year 6 all ventured to St Anta Church to take part in this term's Christingle service. The children had a wonderful time constructing their Christingles and reflecting upon the messages shared during the service. Our EYFS and Year 1 pupils enjoyed taking part in the Christingle at school. A huge thank you to Reverend Etienne and the Church community for providing the resources and for supporting the school throughout the year.

Kynance Church Visit Our reception and nursery children in Kynance went on their first trip out of school earlier this month, riding on the school minibuses to visit St Anta Church. Huge thanks to Reverend Etienne for giving us a tour of the church and talking to us about some Christian traditions.&nbsp;

Farewell Miss Taylor We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Miss Taylor, who leaves St Uny CE Academy today to enjoy her well-earned retirement. Miss Taylor has worked at St Uny for almost twenty years and has supported so many pupils in both their learning and personal development during her time here. We wish you a very happy retirement.

Thank you to our team of dedicated staff who work tirelessly to ensure our pupils enjoy fantastic learning experiences. We are proud of all that the children have achieved and would like to thank the parents / carers for their continued support. Mr Hoskins - Head of School

School Start Time A gentle reminder that the school starts at 08.45am. The main gates open at 08.30am each morning so that the children can meet and play before school. Children who arrive after 08.45am will be marked as late, persistent lateness will be monitored.

Reporting Absences If your child is going to be absent from school due to illness, then please inform the office before 9am in the morning, and let us know why your child is going to be absent, and when you expect them to return. You may either phone the office on 01736 794180 and leave a message or alternatively send an email to hello@stuny.org.uk

Attendance Guidance Here at St Uny C of E Academy, we recognise that there are occasions when it is appropriate to authorise an absence, such as when a pupil is genuinely too ill to attend school, has a medical appointment that cannot be taken outside of school hours or a request for leave has been agreed in exceptional circumstances. However, the Government does not support parents taking children out of school unless the school agrees this is appropriate under ‘exceptional circumstances’. Any request for leave should be made in writing to the Headteacher using the school’s request form. Please note - at St Uny C of E Academy we are not able to authorise holidays as this is not deemed to be an 'exceptional circumstance'. If your child is absent from school without authorisation, you will be committing an offence under the Education Act 1996. We may submit a request to Cornwall Council for a Penalty Notice to be issued, in accordance with Sections 444A and 444B of the said Act. Penalty Notices are issued per liable parent, per child and each carry a fine of £60 if paid within 21 days or £120 if paid after this but within 28 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice may result in legal action. Absence not authorised by the school may result in a prosecution in the Magistrates’ Court under Section 444(1) or Section 444(1A) of the Education Act 1996, leading to a fine of up to £2,500 and/or a custodial sentence. Cornwall Council may also apply for the costs incurred in taking the matter to Court.

Domestic Abuse advise - First Light: 0300 777 4777 Support in your area You can walk into a local BOOTS pharmacy and ask for&nbsp;‘ANI’&nbsp;( Say, “I’m asking for Annie”) or ask to access their&nbsp;‘Safe Spaces’&nbsp;where you will get support with domestic abuse. There will be a trained member of staff. You can also download and access the Bright Sky app safely. This will give you access to a directory of support agencies and help lines. If you have any concerns regarding safeguarding, please speak to our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mr Hoskins.

Social Media Age Limits We have had incidents of parents reporting issues surrounding children using social media outside of school. WhatsApp has a minimum age limit of 16.

Smart Watches We have noticed a rise in the number of pupils coming into school wearing smart watches. Please note, smart watches are not permitted in school in line with our safeguarding procedures and these devices will be held by the class teacher and returned to an adult at the end of the school day.

Throughout the week at St Uny CE Academy, pupils are awarded house points for demonstrating our school values, progress in learning, fantastic effort in different challenges and for contributing to the life of the school. Parenting Programmes Parenting programmes are workshops and / or groups that support you with some of the challenges of being a parent. Parents tell us that they learn a great deal from each other and enjoy the support that a group provides. The local authority offer a selection of free workshops, whatever the age or needs of your child. Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) School staff have reviewed the progress of pupils on the SEN register towards their termly targets from their ILP. We would like to invite parents in to meet with their child's class teacher after school, the week beginning 9th&nbsp;January to discuss this as well as their child's targets for the spring term. Class teachers will be contacting you in January to arrange this.&nbsp;&nbsp;

SENDCo Contact If you would like to contact Mrs Brand (SENDCo) about your child's additional needs please email hello@stuny.org.uk, telephone or call in to the school office to make an appointment. Mrs Brand will be on the school gate between 8.30-8.45 on Mondays and Wednesdays if you want to speak to her directly, this can be to arrange a longer meeting at another time.&nbsp;&nbsp;
