Head of School: This Month at St Uny CE Academy

Forest School Harvest! What a wonderful day all of the children had celebrating our Forest School Harvest earlier this week! The children loved spending time outdoors, using natural resources and apples from our orchard to make bird feeders. Time for reflection also featured in the sessions, focusing on looking after the environment and the world around us. Reverend Etienne also came along to take part. Thank you so much to Mr Smith &amp; Mrs Olney for organising today's activities and thank you to the parents / carers who have donated to our food bank collection.

Cross Country Celebrations! What an amazing team of runners! St Uny were fabulous at the first cross country event of the year earlier this month. Everyone ran their heart out and there were some incredible sprint finishes. Two medal winners too! We saw so much resilience, and the teamwork and support they showed each other was amazing. We are proud of all of them!

Miss Griffiths' Australian Adventure! Today we bid farewell to Miss Griffiths (for 9 months) as she embarks on a sabbatical from St Uny and travels to Australia. We wish her the best of luck as she spends time exploring Australia, enjoying the sunshine and experiencing lots of new adventures. Miss Griffiths will be missed by staff and pupils and we look forward to welcoming her back to the St Uny team in September 2024!

Tesco Carbis Bay - Blue Tokens! We are delighted to announce that St Uny C of E Academy has been selected to be a 'blue token' school at Tesco in Carbis Bay. We are hoping to use this funding to develop our quiet outdoor spaces so we can further support the mental health and wellbeing of our pupils. If you are in Tesco Carbis Bay, please place your tokens in our pot - we would be incredibly grateful.

Morvah Farm Visit Morvah class had a fantastic morning at Cornhill Farm this month! Thanks so much to farmer Pete for showing us all around. The children enjoyed a tour of the farm and learnt about how it operates from day to day. The children even graded and packed our own eggs to bring home for tea as they learn all about #fieldtofork

School Start Time A gentle reminder that the school starts at 08.45am. The main gates open at 08.30am each morning so that the children can meet and play before school. Children who arrive after 08.45am will be marked as late, persistent lateness will be monitored.

Reporting Absences If your child is going to be absent from school due to illness, then please inform the office before 9am in the morning, and let us know why your child is going to be absent, and when you expect them to return. You may either phone the office on 01736 794180 and leave a message or alternatively send an email to hello@stuny.org.uk When reporting an absence, please leave a message on each day of your child's absence, telling us: - Your child's name -&nbsp;Class name/Year group - Why they are absent (Type of illness e.g sickness, migraine) - When you expect them to return

Attendance Reminder We have seen a rise in holiday requests during term time over the past few weeks. Please ensure you complete an ‘Exceptional Circumstances Request’ form, which can be collected from the office. As a school, we are not able to authorise requests for holiday during term time as this does not fall under ‘exceptional circumstances’. If you have any questions about attendance, please do not hesitate to come and speak to the staff in the office.

Mousehole Step Back In Time! Morvah class travelled back in time earlier this month when they visited the Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz at Flambards. The children had a wonderful time immersing themselves in their history topic and were inspired by the artefacts and articles from the past. Thank you to the team at Flambards for being so helpful.

Godrevy visit Gwel an Mor! What an energy-packed day Godrevy class have had at Basecamp, Gwel an Mor! The children displayed so much courage and determination by tackling the climbing walls and burnt off more energy in the soft play area. The children also got to meet many wild and exotic animals afterwards. A huge thank you to the FOSUA for funding this memorable trip!

There will be a trained member of staff. You can also download and access the Bright Sky app safely. This will give you access to a directory of support agencies and help lines. If you have any concerns regarding safeguarding, please speak to our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mr Hoskins.

Social Media Age Limits We have had incidents of parents reporting issues surrounding children using social media outside of school. WhatsApp has a minimum age limit of 16.

Smart Watches We have noticed a rise in the number of pupils coming into school wearing smart watches. Please note, smart watches are not permitted in school in line with our safeguarding procedures and these devices will be held by the class teacher and returned to an adult at the end of the school day.

Throughout the week at St Uny CE Academy, pupils are awarded house points for demonstrating our school values, progress in learning, fantastic effort in different challenges and for contributing to the life of the school. Inclusive Dyslexia Friendly Schools + Initiative&nbsp; This year the school's SEN focus is Dyslexia. In July, Mrs Brand (SENDCo) attended three days of Dyslexia Friendly Schools training. Afterwards, Mrs Hoskins and Mrs Brand completed an SEN school audit and created a plan to describe the actions for the next year to develop the SEN provision at St Uny for pupils with cognition and learning needs. Mrs Brand will make an application to the local authority's Cognition and Learning Service for Dyslexia Friendly Schools Status in the summer term next year.&nbsp;Staff from the Cognition and Learning Service will then visit school to complete the accreditation the term afterwards. If any parents would like further details about the Inclusive Dyslexia Friendly Schools initiative, please email&nbsp;&nbsp;hello@stuny.org.uk, telephone or call in to the school office and Mrs Brand will make contact to arrange a time to meet you to discuss this.&nbsp;
