I really enjoyed this project and learned so many things about poetry. My poems definitely got much better throughout this project as I kept learning how to make them better.

The world is like the four seasons of a year.

Being with loved ones is like the warm rays of a new spring day.

Being anxious of the unknown is like swimming in the ocean and not knowing what’s beneath.

Kindness is like a rainbow after a rainy

Friends helping friends is like catching snowflakes.

The feeling of being accomplished is like a warm cup of hot chocolate.

Horseback Riding Is My Worldview

Horseback riding is my worldview,

The horses being my friends,

The jumps being what I overcome everyday,

The falls showing that I can get back up again,

My instructors being my inspiration,

The boots being what keeps me going,

The people around me being my voice
that point me to the right direction,

Haiku Poems

There’s colourful leaves

They blossom and bloom all day

Then they fall and die

Foot steps in the sand

As the tide goes in and out

Suddenly all gone

Sitting and reading

As the sun shines on my face

Then a bug bites me

The Shining Waters

Ashes across the water

I looked at the sky

The sun glowed bright

The best beach day ever

The boat

I didn’t know mom always wanted to rest in the ocean

Mom’s boss

Our neighbour

Mom’s best friend

Purple snap dragons, Baby birds, Seagulls stared

Mom loves pink

SAD

She might cry

Wiped tears

Pacific ocean

The waves went up and down, up and down, and carried mom our to sea

Speck of dust floating down to the ocean floor

The words came from the book Survival Strategies of the Almost Brave, by Jen White.

The original text was changed by bringing more focus to the emotions around the mom dying. This was done by cutting out parts of the text that brought focus to the present tense. The poem describes memories of the mom and the feelings around her death

The Burning Flames

I see the smoke fill the sky

The oder of the fumes drift up my nose

The Worlds water warms with widespread wildfires

Feel the heat from the hot sun

Climate Crisis Crushing Cluelessly

I hear the Crackle of the flames burning behind me

The wind blows and wherever it goes it flows and slows

I can feel the heat from far away

Feeling frightful from forest fires

The smokey sunset shines then gets swept away

Picked up my the fires

Soggy Socks

Splish Splash, Splish Splash

Is all I hear as I walk to school in the pouring rain

I hear the flooding water splash on the ground

Feeling muggy when the water seeps into my running shoes

Thud, thud, thud as the rock that I just kicked bounces against the sidewalk

Listening to the whooshing wind blow on my cold damp face

Instantly making me shiver

Thump, thump, thump

As the rain falls on the roof of the house the distance

Suddenly all the bitter rain, and hissing wind stops

As I stand on the moist sidewalk

No longer drizzling but still drenched

Walking to school now soaked,

Squeak squeak, as I try not to slip on the not so dry floors

Walking as a rock, slow and steady

Jumping Past The Butterflies

I make my way past the stalls
Anxiously looking to see what horse I’m riding
Relieved when it’s one of my favourites

I get ready and bring the horse to the arena
Pushing the butterflies in my stomach down as I mount
Suddenly fine as I start to walk around

The wind blows on my face as we race around
As I struggle to see through the bright sun
Counting my steps
1 2 1 2 1 2

Turning towards the jump
The butterflies come whooshing back like a wave
I knock over the jump

I gather the reins and get more speed
I full send
Leaving the thought of falling off behind me

I try again
I perfect the jump

I finish the lesson
Letting the horse take control
Still blinded by the sun
As I see the odd butterfly fly by
