While teaching the pupils numeracy during school experience, I used a range of different teaching techniques to cater for all the pupils needs and learning styles. One pupil who was on the autistic spectrum really enjoyed using an iPad, therefore, I guided him to useful games to make learning fun for him and he could do it at his own pace.
I used ActivInspire at least once a week and each pupil were given the opportunity to come up to the board and practice writing their numbers from 1-10.
Since I was teaching Primary 1 pupils, I became aware of their interests and I would always start or end a numeracy lesson with a song or rhyme relating to the topic. For example, we were focussing on the number 10 one week and we listened to the song '10 Little Speckled Frogs.'
I also used TopMarks games to consolidate pupils learning and as a plenary. The pupils always responded very positively to this and was a great way to keep them focussed and engaged during a numeracy lesson.
