It was a year ago that the UK went into lockdown and it has certainly been a year to remember. In this collection of poems, Solefield boys reflect on this last year. Inspired by the poems of Tomos Roberts, the boys have entered into the poetic spirit to create this collection as a keepsake for the future. Let's not forget this year!

Thank you to Tomos for talking to us (via Zoom) and sharing his 4 stages of writing with us all. You are an inspiration to us here at Solefield!

(Apologies that I could not fit everyone's poems in.)

Buying Panic

Food piled up from head down to feet,

Some people were snacking with too much to eat,

Panicking people went to the shops,

And later returned with the whole place’s stock,

If you turned up late there was nothing to buy

And when there were no Oreos, the children would cry.

Later in lockdown they learned from their deeds,

Now we only purchase the things that we need.

Shenanigan
by Barnaby A (6H)
I was in my room staring at the screen,
Wondering what to do when we’re back clean.
Pondering why or how we were in isolation,
I felt angry thinking of normal I was used to this hibernation.
Now, I rely on a man my mum hates,
All I want is to see my mates.
Going insane thinking of football,
Want to go back not just on a call.
Only who I can see is my family,
Looking down staring at me.
I feel like a lost hope,
Wanna play football but nope.
All I can do is hope for the best,
Both of my brothers being pests,
I feel ill my eyes are strained,
The WIFI must be pained.
But all of this shenanigan has taught we have
a lot more in our family than we think
and seeing people is everything
and no matter how lonely you feel
your family will help.
