South America is a continent known for its high biodiversity. Its rainforests, grasslands, mountains and deserts are home to a vast number of species, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth.
South American animals include mammals such as anteaters, tapirs, jaguar, maned wolf, howler monkeys and spider monkeys; reptiles such as caimans, anacondas and iguanas; amphibians such as poison dart frogs and the red-eyed tree frog; and birds such as the harpy eagle, rheas and macaws.
Confused Llama Sticker
South America is a continent and as such it does not have a national animal. However, many of the countries within its borders have very distinctive national animals that are worth mentioning. From interesting mammals to small omnivorous species, every country is incredibly proud of its individual mascot. For example, the national animal of Guatemala is the quetzal bird, and the national animal of Peru is the vicuña, which is a type of llama, etc. Sh.

Peru Llama Sticker by TEHZETA
Llamas, guanacos, vicuñas (Vicugna vicugna), and alpacas (V. pacos) are known collectively as lamoids. Unlike camels, llamas and other lamoids do not have the characteristic camel humps; they are slender-bodied animals and have long legs and long necks, short tails, small heads, and large pointed ears. Gregarious animals, they graze on grass and other plants.
Llama
The llama is the largest of the four lamoid species. It averages 120 cm (47 inches) at the shoulder, with most males weighing between 136 and 181.4 kg (300 and 400 pounds) and most females weighing between 104.3 and 158.7 kg (230 and 350 pounds). A 113-kg (250-pound) llama can carry a load of 45–60 kg and average 25 to 30 km (15 to 20 miles) travel a day.

Jaguar
The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a large cat species and the only living member of the genus Panthera native to the Americas. With a body length of up to 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) and a weight of up to 158 kg (348 lb), it is the biggest cat species in the Americas and the third largest in the world. Its distinctively marked coat features pale yellow to tan colored fur covered by spots that transition to rosettes on the sides, although a melanistic black coat appears in some individuals. The jaguar's powerful bite allows it to pierce the carapaces of turtles and tortoises, and to employ an unusual killing method: it bites directly through the skull of mammalian prey between the ears to deliver a fatal blow to the brain.

sloth Sticker
Male and female three-toed sloths look similar, growing up to roughly 18 inches and weighing up to 10 pounds.
Unlike two-toed sloths, they also have a tiny 2-inch tail.
All sloths have three claws on their back limbs so it’s really the digits on the forelimbs that matter.
All three-toed sloths have that brown or gray-colored coat with the darker markings around their head and eyes; however, they may also have a tint of green. This comes from their symbiotic relationship with algae. Sloths move at the slow pace of 0.15 mph which allows algae to easily grow on them and provide camouflage and skin nutrients. In exchange, the sloth gives the algae shelter and water.Three-toed sloths are broken up into four subspecies, all found in Latin America. They prefer forests that range from evergreen to dry or tropical. Sloths have their own territories so they will move between trees up to four times a day. This allows other sloths to navigate the trees without territory overlap.
