Here we are retelling the story of the Gingerbread Man using masks and puppets. We loved joining in with his catchphrase - Tee, hee, hee you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread man.

What a lovely surprise we had the other week when we returned to our classroom to find a mystery gift had been left. The only clue was a trail of flour!!

It turned out to be a tray full of ingredients and a special recipe.

Last week we had our first trip into the Hall for Assembly. All of Reception got together to celebrate Harvest and think about how lucky we are to have food. They all wanted to say a big thank you to their grown ups for all the food that was donated - we know it will make lots of other people very happy.

After we discovered that Gingerbread Men do not like getting wet we began creating all kinds of bridges to help him cross the river.  We used our design skills to make sure they were strong and stable.

This term in PE we have been busy developing our rolling skills.  We have used lots of different sizes and shapes of balls as well as putting our bodies in different positions.  We each had our own ideas about which helped us to get the ball furthest and to hit the target.

This half term we have been busy learning some doubling and halving fact. We have learnt a special rhyme and can use our fingers to help us remember some important number equations.

Mrs Kearney put them in the oven and at afternoon snack we were all able to enjoy a tasty treat. Look at some of the amazing vocabulary we used to describe how they tasted.

It has been a very busy term for all the children. They have all settled really well into the routines and expectations of 'big school'. As we start our regular phonics sessions and develop a greater understanding of number, I can see the children are ready for all the opportunities and challenges that their new learning will bring. Then following the recipe we mixed the ingredients together - everyone taking turns to have a stir.

Using our senses we looked at, felt and smelt the different ingredients to try and work out what they were. We guessed most of them right, but found ginger to be a bit trickier - it did remind lots of us of Christmas though!!

Once we had made our soft sticky dough ball we rolled it out so that it was round and flat.

Using the special cutters we then cut out lots of little shapes - it was a gingerbread man.

We couldn't forget that it is nearly Halloween and have loved talking about all our plans for the spooky day. We drew, cut up and explored pumpkins - finding them sticky, gooey and full of seeds.

It was great fun making scary faces out of pins on one of them, and this really helped our fine motor skills too.

We enjoyed baking so much we decided to create a Bakery Shop in our role play area.  We loved making the cakes and selling them to our customers.

One morning we found our classroom covered in flour again. But this time we had been left a video on the i-pad. It was very funny watching someone running around our classroom laughing. After looking at the book they had left us we decided it was a cheeky little Gingerbread Man and decided to make posters to warn all the other children in school that he was around.

Using some of our spare biscuits we carried out our first scientific experiment - what would happen to the gingerbread men if we left them covered in water or flour? After a couple of hours we checked again and observed whether our predictions had come true.

We were also busy in the Play dough area using the cutters and tools to create lots of wonderful cakes, pies and biscuits.
