We are Bug Hunters 

In Maths we have been busy making 3 colour patterns and developing our mathematical vocabulary.

We enjoyed a lovely Spring walk around the school grounds. We looked very closely for signs that the seasons were changing and found lots of flowers and even more bugs.

We were very intrigued when we took delivery of some caterpillars.  They arrived in a pot with some special food.  Over the next few days we watched them as they grew and made their chrisalids.  I wonder what type of butterfly will emerge?  Look at the following life cycle to see some of the photographs that we took.

We also got busy making different 3d shapes.&#160; This helped us see how many corners and edges that they have. what shape have i made?

After reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar we thought about all the food he had eaten - Was it healthy or unhealthy? Did he have a balanced diet?

We then tasted the different fruit he enjoyed. Everyone did really well and sampled all the different types.

Watermelon was the favourite followed closely by strawberries!

After a very unusual start to 2021 it has been lovely to have all the children back in school and to begin this terms topic 'We are Bug Hunters'.

Using the works of Eric Carle as our focus we have been very busy learning all about bugs and insects.

We have had lots of fun painting, building, designing, playing with and learning all about them - as you can see!

We listened to some music which told the story of a butterfly's life cycle. Can you watch the clips and guess what it happening from our movements?

1. We painted our paper. We then added a second colour. Using different tools we made patterns and marks.

2. When it was dry we cut out and egg shape. We then cut a zig zag pattern through the middle.

After reading the book we got very busy too - weaving lots of spider webs.

Easter was coming and we got busy making bags and cards.&#160; We worked iN THE STYLE OF ERIC CARLE AND USED ALL OUR CREATIVE SKILLS TO MAKE A MOVING CARD.&#160; lOOK, AT THE DIFFERENT STEPS INVOLVED.

After sharing lots of different story and information books about bugs we found lots of different ways to show some of the things we had learned.

Well done Class 1 for settling back into school and learning so quickly - you have been amazing and should be very proud of all you have achieved. We hope you had a lovely Easter Break and are looking forward to Summer 1 - We are Kind.

3. We then made a small hole at the bottom to push the split pin through. Once through we pulled the parts apart and pushed them down firmly - a very tricky job. Now our egg could move to show the chick.

4. Finally we wrote a special message to our family wishing them a Happy Easter. We tried to use our neatest writing and a add little picture too.

As a start to our topic, Class 1 became Bug Hunters. They explored outdoor spaces, looking in the plants and under logs, for some mini beasts. We were amazed to see so many woodlice and some very fat worms.

IT WAS A SEA OF RED IN CLASS 1 ON COMIC RELIEF DAY.&#160; wE LEARNT ABOUT WHY WE WERE RAISING MONEY AND HAD A BIG LAUGH SHARING SOME OF OUR FAVOURITE JOKES.&#160; tAKE A LISTEN.
