We are Real Life Heroes class 1

Class 1 decided that a hero is brave and someone who helps other people.

We got busy threading beads to make some colourful Christmas decorations. We took great care to make some lovely patterns and hope you like hanging them on your tree.

We love the Role Play Area. Being imaginative and telling stories with our friends is great for developing our vocabulary and turn taking.

This half term we looked at the work of the artist George Seurat. He developed the technique of Pointellism where dots of paint are used to build up a picture. We created patterns on Emergency vehicles and Christmas baubles in a similar style.

On Party Day we had lots of fun playing party games with our friends and

Father Christmas made his special appearance via zoom. We loved hearing our names as he read some of our Christmas letters. We were amazed that he knew all the things we wanted. As he was so busy in the North Pole, Father Christmas sent his special friend Mikey Mouse to deliver a lovely gift for us all. It was all so exciting!

On a cold winter morning Class 1 made a very surprising discovery in the Forest School area - a nest containing 3 eggs and a man made of sticks.

What could they be and why where they here?

In preparation we got busy getting the classroom ready.

It takes a lot of concentration and control to use scissors and cut accurately, but all the children put in a lot of hard work to cut around the different shapes to create a fire engine.

As we followed the adventures of Stick Man, we thought about why the snowman might have melted. We explored ice and tried different ways of trying to release the Stick Man. What do you think worked best?

During Remembrance Week we thought about our 'real life' heroes - Soldiers. We discussed their bravery and how they keep us safe.

Using our fingers and pens we recreated fields of poppies. We think they are beautiful.

After learning about the reasons why we celebrate Bonfire Night, the children continued to explore technology in the classroom.  Using the programme 2 paint a picture we recreated some of the fireworks we had seen the night before.  

Whilst learning about and playing with 3D shapes we were able to create lots of interesting structures including; hospitals, vets surgeries and fire and police stations.

Our Real Life Hero Day was a great way to end our topic and share all our learning. It was lovely to see so many ......

Class 1 We are 'Real Life Heroes'. Autumn 2020

Back in class we recreated the scene using playdough

Suddenly the classroom was filled with a sea of red as poppies appeared everywhere.

Before the Christmas festivities got into full swing, Class 1 looked carefully at other religious celebrations. Both Diwali and Hannukkah are celebrated at this time of the year and signal the start of the Jewish and Hindu New Year. In both light plays a very important part. We found, that like on Bonfire Night, fireworks are an special part of the celebration.

We really enjoyed trying to make our own patterns using different resources in the classroom.

It was amazing. I loved seeing all my friends.

How exciting it was to see ourselves on the big screen in the Hall - we felt like film stars. Everybody thought the final show was amazing and we hope you do too.

We explored technology; looking closely at the different parts of a computer system and learning vocabulary such as monitor, keyboard and mouse.

We want to help make people feel better and give them medicine.

I am a surgeon going to operate on someone's arm.

Excitement levels rose in class when we received a special delivery via Elf Mail -

a letter from Father Christmas announcing a special visit later in the week.

The rocket is like a triangle, it has a point at the top.

I looked after my friend when they were sad.

We played nicely together and shared the toys.

During the term we all tried really hard to perform daily acts of kindness and receive the Kindness Elf Award.

We found 2D shapes both inside and outside the classroom.  We talked about their appearance and cleverly used them to create pictures and solve puzzles.

We had even more spotty fun on Children In Need Day. Never have I seen so many Pudsey ears, socks and spots.

Well done to all the children in Class 1 - you have worked really hard this half term and have learnt lots about the different people, both past and present, who help us in our communities. You are all heroes too!
