Class 1 autumn 1 21

We made prints using some of the leaves we found outside. We chose autumn colours and they really showed us the different shapes and features.

This is our first assembly.  We felt very grown up going into the Hall.  Mrs Niblock was very proud of how well we listened.  We certainly followed the Schools Golden Rules.

This half term we had a surprise when we came to school and found a pile of ingredients. We carefully followed the recipe and made some tasty gingerbread men. We enjoyed snack that day as we all munched on our creations. We use lots of different adjectives to describe their taste, smell and texture.

We have been working hard to write our names using correct pencil grip and letter formation. Remember to keep practicing.

I can recognise different seasons - Autumn

In class we discussed the changes that were happening due to the changing seasons. We knew it was autumn and thought about the leaves changing colour and falling, the weather getting colder and wetter and the different seeds on the trees. We went for a walk around the school grounds to see if we could find any evidence of them.

What feelings do you think we are showing?

We have been learning about emotions and how people express them.  This will help us understand our friends and how our actions may effect them.

What a busy first half term it has been. There may have been some tears and tantrums but the children have settled really well into the routines and expectations of school, and are ready to progress on their learning journey. We have discovered the areas within out indoor and outdoor classrooms and developed many new and special friendships with our classmates. Look through our book and enjoy the photographs showing some of the things we have been up to (and can never remember when it is hometime!!)

We found our Class tree - a very large Silver Birch and noticed how its leaves and bark was the same or different to other trees we had seen. We made rubbings using crayons to help us see the patterns. We will be watching our tree closely to see how it changes during the year.

We used the interactive whiteboard to create lots of different Gingerbread Men.

We read the story of the Gingerbread Mans' adventures and learnt his catchphrase 'Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man.'

In the story the Gingerbread Man did not want to cross the river because he could not swim.  We carried out an experiment to find out what would have happened if he had gone in the water.  

I can make a bridge to save the Gingerbread Man.

The children decided to build bridges to save the Gingerbread Man from the fox. They used different construction materials and thought how to make their structures strong and stable.

We really enjoyed the chance to talk about our summer holidays with our new friends. It was a great way to get to know each other.

We hope you have enjoyed sharing some of the things we have been doing in our first term in Class 1. It has been a great adventure. We look forward to showing you lots more of our learning next half term as we share the story Stickman and get ready for Christmas.
