Green polka dot pattern

People get their hands decorated with lots of patterns.

In Class we thought about places and buildings that are special to us. We talked about where they are and what we like about them.

My daddy's restaurant is best because I like to eat. Devran

The Lodge - I go there lots and lots.&#160; It is made of straw. Henry

I like going to the farm.&#160; it is good because I see animals. Holly

School is my best place because I get to see my friends. Charlotte

As we rehearse the Christmas Nativity we have thought about how Mary and Joseph prepared for the arrival of baby Jesus. We know that today things are very different.

My daddy packed a bag and put it in the car.

Shepherds don't come ..... our nannies and grandads do.

After Stanley's Stick we read Stickman. It is a story many of us are familiar with and we enjoyed joining with the repeated phase 'I'm Stickman, I'm Stickman, that's me.'

We made Stickpeople at home and shared how we made them with our friends in Class. Look at how different they all are.

We have been learning about celebrations and thought about all the different celebrations we know.

We found out that across the World there are many  celebrations and festivals.  They have different meanings and people enjoy them in many ways.

We loved playing with the babies in our role play area -  we fed them, changed them and even read them a bedtime story.

Stickman sent us some pictures from his adventures. They showed different landmarks and special buildings in our local area. Do you recognise them?

We had a bit of a problem - we needed to paint a tree but we only had primary colours, red, yellow and blue.  We decided we had to mix them together to create a new colour.  We experimented and found the two colours that went together to make green.

Some of us shared photographs from Christenings, Baptisms and Naming Ceremonies that took place when we were babies. Lots of these took place in a church with us welcomed into the church 'family'.

Many of us were given presents from the Church like a candle or a Bible. As it was a celebration, many of us had a party afterwards with our friends and family. We had cake, cards and presents.

We discussed the importance of Remembrance Day and why we still celebrate every year.  We shared the CBeebies video 'Poppies' to help us understand how animals and people were affected by the war.  We saw how significant poppies were and created them in lots of different ways.

We looked at the inside of a church and talked about the different features we could see.

We discussed how Christians use the symbol of the cross, have a special book called the Bible and that in a church you might also find a font filled with Holy Water.

We loved how bright and colourful the poppy fields looked and tried to create our own using paint. 1. First we mixed some green and painted the field. 2. After it had dried we added red paint to our finger or thumb and dabbed them over the field to create the poppy flower. 3. Using a black felt tip we added a centre to the flower.

Hurray it's Santa Day! I had lots of fun meeting all the children in Class 1.&#160; They told me about all the presents they would like, so now I had better get busy making them with the help of all of the elves.

We shared the Bible story - Jesus blesses the Children and wondered why it was special to Christians.

Jesus was kind and wanted the children to be part of his family.

Jesus was once a baby.&#160; He came from Mary's tummy.

He loved everyone and had a big house they could all go to live in.

Jesus is a nice man who wants to play and keep everybody happy.

We have used the different tools on the whiteboard to draw Stickman and his family.

We love using the ipad to play games during Golden Ticket time.

Doctors can give you medicine to make you better.

We have to eat vegetables they are healthy.

You need to brush your teeth, 2 times everyday.

Sweets aren't good for you.&#160; You have them as a treat.

Germs are a bad bug.&#160; You need to wash your hands.

Today was Children In Need Day and we went spotty to help raise lots of money for children who aren't as lucky as us.

Hello, I came with a special delivery from Father Christmas.&#160; It was lovely to high 5 and hug the children in Class 1.

We learned that people from different faiths have their own special buildings. These can be churches, chapels, temples, mosques and synagogues. People go there to pray, worship, sing, learn stories about their God and meet their friends.

This has been a very busy half term with the children continuing to develop and learn new skills. We have worked hard on our speaking and listening skills, always trying to answer in full sentences and using  new vocabulary.

We shared the story Stanley's Stick. We loved looking at how Stanley used his imagination to turn his stick into lots of different things. (You will see some of our ideas for different uses on the next page.)

After that we read Stickman. We thought about the different places he went to and what made them special. We worked on writing lists and included the things he saw, where he went and what he became.

We have of course been busy rehearsing our Christmas Production. The children have all worked incredibly hard to remember their lines and actions, and of course how to still still and wait their turn!!

This half term we have been learning some winter poems. We have had fun changing our voices to match the words and adding actions to help us remember them. Watch the videos to see how well we did.

Look how our Silver Birch has changed over the past few weeks - there are a lot fewer leaves now, most of them are on the floor and are either orange or brown.

We looked at the differences between a Church and a mosque.

It has no chairs - so people can kneel down to pray. Leo

In a mosque they use lights and candles too. Robyn

Muslims face a special way when they pray. Lucy

One cold day we found that the rain and puddles had frozen into patches of ice.  We loved holding it and finding ways to break it into a thousand pieces.

Look my hands are all cold.&#160; My fingers have gone red. Robyn

It looks like glass.&#160; It breaks when I&#160;drop it. Jensen

Stickman set us a challenge - to release these items from the ice. From our prior knowledge we knew that ice and snow melts and turns to water. We discussed how this is a change in material from solid to liquid. We decided to put some of the ice on the radiator and another tub was put in a bowl of hot water. Which do you think melted quickest?

What have we been learning in P.E. this half term?

We have been busy developing the small muscles in our hands and wrists through lots of different activities.  All of these fine motor activities really help with our hand eye co-ordination and writing.

Whilst looking at our Class Tree we enjoyed a sneaky play on a different trim trail. We worked hard to balance ourselves as we jumped from tyre to tyre. We also demonstrated lovely manners as we waited for our turn.

Using our developing skills we made a moving Stickman. First we had to cut out the template using scissors. We worked hard to hold them properly and safely.

Using a pencil and blu tac we made holes at the pivot points.

We then joined the different body parts together with split pins. Then our figure could run.

As part of Anti - Bullying Week we wore odd socks. This helped us remember that even though we are all different we should still be kind to each other. We thought of some 'kind' words and added them to the schools kindness tree.

We explored the effect of magnets and saw how they attracted certain materials but not others. We also learned the word repel as we watched the magnets push each other away.

It is made of metal.&#160; That sticks to the magnets.

Wood does not work ..... it is not metal.

Can you guess who these very cute babies are?

We had lots of fun trying to guess who was who.  Some where easy to spot but others were a lot trickier.  We then talked about how we had changed using key historical vocabulary. 

As it was Bonfire Night we shared the story of Guy Fawkes and discovered what happened in the past. We learned how he tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament and now we have fireworks to reflect this. We had lots of fun with different firework activities in the Classroom.
