Emylie Goes to School: How Inclusion Can Make a Difference
Emylie loves going to school. She has lots of friends and loves to play tag outside and talking to the friends she has in her class. She even gets in trouble sometimes for talking too much in class!
Emylie is great at math and loves to raise her hand and participate in class. She is usually excited to learn new things but gets very nervous when the teacher says that it is time to read out loud or write in sentences because she has a hard time putting her thoughts into words on paper.

Emylie is great at math and loves to raise her hand and participate in class. She is usually excited to learn new things but gets very nervous when the teacher says that it is time to read out loud or write in sentences because she has a hard time putting her thoughts into words on paper.
When she is given class time to do an activity that requires her to write her thoughts with pencil and paper she freezes and sits, staring at her empty page. Her teachers in the past have gotten mad at her for not finishing her work so she usually tries to hide her unfinished work to avoid punishment.
Emylie feels embarrassed and upset. When the teacher tells everyone to hand in their work, she starts crying and everyone is looking at her. Her teacher walks over and brings her out into the hall to talk.

When the teacher calms Emylie down, she tells her that there are ways that she can show she knows how to do the work without even using a pencil. The teacher and Emylie make a plan to use a computer in class to make sure that she can do the assignment.
The teacher lets use Emylie use speech to text using google read and write on her school computer to do the activity. She is finally able to put her thoughts into a paragraph. She has a lot to say and a lot to describe in her paragraph that she could not do before.
