CLIL: ANIMALS IN DANGER

ETWINNING PROJECT "YES, WE CAN!" 2019/20
ABOUT THIS CLIL ACTIVITY
This CLIL activity was carried out by Science and English teachers (Proff. Denise Natali and Simonetta Galli) at secondary school and English and Technology teacher (Stefania Betti) at primary school as part of the eTwinning project “Yes, We Can!” about raising awareness about climate change and environmental problems. It was planned long before the school closure at the end of February due to Coronavirus outbreak. Despite of that teachers decided to go on with it reorganising the final steps according to Distance Learning.

FIRST STEP (December 2019)
Secondary School
With their Science teacher students studied the effects of Global Warming and Climate Change on animal species living in different habitats and identified some animals that are in danger of extinction. In the computer lab they worked in pairs and did research on the internet.

SECOND STEP (January-February 2020)
Secondary School
Some students created FACT FILES in English about nine animals: the arctic fox, the monk seal, the dolphin, the sea turtle, the koala,
the bee, the polar bear, the emperor penguin and the puffin. A shared presentation in English was also prepared. The fact files were given to primary school class 4B.

THIRD STEP (February 2020)
Primary school
As part of the English curriculum pupils were studying abilities, physical description, animals and their habitats. As a creative activity for Carnival they created masks of the nine animals in danger.

FOURTH STEP (March 2020)
Primary school
In Distance Learning pupils were given descriptions of some animals and fact files to fill in and viceversa and learned how to describe an animal with given features. They also created delicious dishes of animals and sent photos of them that are collected in a padlet (Food Art).

FIFTH STEP (April 2020)
Primary school
Pupils made drawings and videos describing animals in danger that are collected in a padlet. Some of them are included in this ebook that will be shared on the twinspace for Animals' Day on 10th May.
