My Summer Fun - Part 2

In this book you will find lots of fun things that you can do together as a family over the summer break. They will include art and craft activities, science experiments you can do at home, Forest School activities and brilliant books you can share with your family.

Don't forget to take lots of photos to post on either Tapestry or Seesaw so your new class teacher and teaching assistant can see what you have been getting up to!

Forest School and Outdoor Learning

Framed Art

You will need: four equal sticks to make a frame (or an old picture frame if you have one), a collection of natural materials

1) Arrange your 4 equal sticks in a square or rectangle shape to make a frame.

2) Go and find as many natural objects as you think you need to create your picture.

3) Arrange your objects to make a picture – It could be an abstract piece of art or it could be an interpretation of something of your choice. An animal or a face for example. 

Arts and Craft

Ice Lolly Art

You will need: a range of coloured card, paper, scissors, old lolly sticks

1) Cut a rectangle of card and then cut a curve on one end.

2) Stick your lolly stick on the back of the card shape on the short straight edge.

3) Use a range of different materials to decorate your ice lollies including small pom poms, pieces of cut straw , glitter or colouring pens.

Now you can pretend to pretend to buy and sell your lollies at the ice-cream parlor.

Science Fun

Dragon eggs

You will need: eggs and food colouring

1. Ask a grown-up to hard-boil some eggs.
2. Let them cool. Then roll them on the work-surface to crackle the shell.
3. Half-fill some cups with water and mix in a good dollop of food colouring into each cup (the gel pastes work best). 
4. Pop an egg into each cup and leave in the fridge overnight.
5. Peel off the shell and you’ll see that the dye is taken up wherever the shell is cracked.
6. Now gobble them up!

Learning About the Past

Amazing Amelia Earhart

Last Friday, on July the 24th, it was American pilot Amelia Earhart’s birthday! She was born in 1898; that is 122 years ago, before Televisions were invented! Amelia became a very famous woman because she was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean (the ocean between America and England). She also flew solo from Hawaii to California. She was a very brave and courageous woman.
