History

Australia has been inhabited for at least forty-six thousand years by the Australian aborigines, the eastern half of the continent was claimed by Great Britain in 1770, during the nineteenth century five more colonies were established and in 1901, the six colonies were united to form the Confederation of Australia and has maintained a liberal democratic political system being a monarchy within the British Commonwealth of Nations.

It is a constitutional monarchy with a parliament, Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state represented by a governor and there are 4 executive powers.

Remarkable People

Mel Gibson 
attended the National Institution of Dramatic Art in Sydney, his fame is due to roles in classic films such as Lethal Weapon and Mad Max, directed the controversial film The Passion of the Christ in 2004 and received the Oscar Award for best director for his film Hacksaw Ridge.

Scott John Morrison is a leading Liberal Party politician and Prime Minister of Australia since 2018.

Uluru is a reddish mountain located in the central desert of the country that is considered the "spiritual heart of Australia".

The Sydney Opera House is a world-renowned Australian landmark.

New Year's Eve is one of the most important festivities in the country, since due to its location it is one of the first to welcome the new year, the most internationally known place to celebrate it is Sydney in the surroundings of the bay.

Stereotypes
A famous stereotype of Australia is that people dress in shorts and safari explorer clothing.
Another would be that all the animals there "can kill you" because they are exotic or extreme.

a fair go
Stemming from the accentuated appreciation for equality, there arises what is known as the "a fair go" spirit, which can be translated as equal opportunity or fair treatment and the majority religion is Christianity.

Final Reflection

To conclude, I believe that developing intercultural competencies in students is part of a more open general culture and tolerance of differences, a way to leave behind feelings of inferiority or prejudice, and that it strengthens identity, because nothing is reinforced as much as when we question it.
This course was a lot of fun and I feel that it was the subject in which I used English the most during this semester and that is why it has given me several tools and experiences for my teaching career including the planning we did during the classes.
In the end, even though I had an idea of the importance and history of this target language, you never stop learning and knowing how to apply what you learn.
