Ottawa: Reflection on a Week

This picture is a  surprising example, of Canadian identity. This picture was taken by one of the students that I did not know well, but he still was happy to help me with my project by taking pictures throughout the trip. This kind of kindness can be found all over Canada, and the world knows it.  

This picture represents the Canadian ideology. In Canada we are brought up to believe we as Canadians are one big family, and family’s work together. 

This picture shows the National War Memorial, a granite memorial arch with bronze sculptures. It was designed by Vernon March and first dedicated by King George VI in 1939. War Memorials are a way to pay homage to those who have fought for our country.  

Today we went to the Candian War Museum. This veteran generously gave us his time to explain to us how Canada played a role in WW1 and how did canada change throughout WW1. 

“If you don’t learn anything today,  remember to always ask a question that can be answered without a yes or a no.” 

World War One was a game changer for Canada. Each event that Canada was a part of helped turn Canada into the independent powerhouse that we are today. In this book, we have been talking extensively about the battle of Vimy Ridge and how it affected Canada forever. Vimy was a huge helping factor to become Independent because finally they were known. World War One also helped mold the Canadian identity immensely. In the war, Canada fought with bravery, passion, and commitment, these characteristics are all apart of the Canadian identity. As you can see World War One changed Canadians present life for good. 

This picture represents the attitude Canada had towards fighting for peace and justice. As Canadians, we have a prideful and somewhat patriotic attitude that pushes us to fight for are country. I believe enthusiasm is the reason a once small country fought and won the battle of Vimy Ridge.

<br xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"/>When you think of Canada you don’t think of brutal war and combat, you think of peace, love, honour, and justice. Even though these attributes are all very true, we did have a bigger part of WW1 then you may think. Vimy ridge was a very influential battle that Canada was a huge part of. We displayed are loyalty to Great Britain by fighting In France. 

As Canadians we are seen as kind and loyal people. I believe some of those positive stereotypes are displayed throughout are long and vigourse battles in WW1. I feel as though these historic events has helped us shaped the Canadian identity as a whole.

These paintings depict young men fighting in the battle of Vimy Ridge. This battle was won by Canada. This battle changed the war completely. 

I am Kai Zanker. I enjoy sports immensely, I play a number of different sports such as Soccer, Rugby, Basketball, Surfing, and Skiing. I love learning and becoming a better student academically. This book was a huge example of my learning in Ottawa and I am super proud of it. I hope you enjoy!

We first went to war because we were a part of the British Commonwealth. We quickly came to the realization that we were somewhat alone, never the less we had the responsibility to fight. Canada biggest role in WW1 was capturing Vimy. This was groundbreaking because as a country we were finally recognized. Ultimately the battle of Vimy Ridge helped us create the independent country we are today. 

I personally believe Canada&apos;s biggest contribution to WW1 was the brave men that fought for their country.

Did you know that this program has many very successful alumni like Ashley MacIsaac, the Honorable Lisa Raitt, Jason Priestley, and last but certainly not least Jason Kenney.

For this video, I was assigned to speak to someone who I did not know from BC and talk to them about the program and WW1. I am speaking to Nolan, a really awesome guy, and a yo-yo god. I asked him about his experience here and he absolutely loved it. He said that meeting new people from around the country was awesome! I also asked him about WW1 and he talked about the impact of Vimy on Canada. All his input was awesome. 

This artifact is a piece of a Canadian fighter plane. I thought it was awesome!

To finish off this spectacular trip we got to dance the night away with DJ Jacob spinning tunes. We were allowed to stay up all night if we wanted, but I needed my sleep. So I busted a few sick moves then went up to bed. 

So far during this trip, I have been very interested with the technological advancements during the World Wars. For this reason this artifact stuck out to me. This Nuclear weapon was one of the first mass-produced nuclear weapons.

At the YVR (Vancouver International Airport) I ate like a KING!!... I went to Veras and ate a COUPLE of fantastic burger!

As Canadians we have the opportunity to speak are mind and make are own decisions. I personally think that I wouldn&apos;t decide to enlist in the army because I believe that it is not a proper way to solve problems in the long run. Also, the living conditions were horrid, the trenches were cold, damp, and depressing.

In this picture, we are at one of the famous Diefenbunkers. The Diefenbunkers were emergency headquarters in case of nuclear attack. In this photo, we were in the cafeteria the most open space in the whole bunker. These bunkers show you how alert people had to be during the Cold War.
